Colin and Emma live in Devon, bring in £27,000 a year and consider themselves to be 'aspirational'. He is a nightclub manager, she works part-time in an office and they are about to open a restaurant together. Emma is inexplicably proud of the fact that she hasn't cooked a meal in 6 months. She also takes great pains to let us know that she 'is not a natural mother'. I'm not sure why she's proud of these things.

Mark and Lizzy live on a council estate in Rochdale. The only thing they seem to aspire to is making it through the day without losing track of one of their 8 kids, 5 of whom are under the age of 4! Both are unemployed but they receive a whopping £37,000 a year!

Actually what annoyed me in that statement was the nasty stereotype they're portraying on people who live on council estates, granted it could very well be true (as i've never lived on a council estate) but still.

Surely this is just the kind of program that would appear to strengthen class boundaries.

Certainly the "council estate with lots of kids" image is stereotyped, but I do have to say that in my experience I've yet to see it disproved.

The local (well manchester) radio stations breakfast show were ripping the piss for half the morning and then started taking phone calls and were surprised that there was no-one phoning up to support them. Loads of calls from people from rochdale saying 'we're nowt like that..'

another did say though that she got more than that a year and had only 7 children.

Artcile in the paper about them today...

They spend £140 a week on ciggies, and £70 on.... wait for it... bingo.

Almost £9k of their benefits come from the fact two of their kids are chronic asthmatics... given the quantity of ciggies they buy, thats hardly surprising. Oh what great message that sends out... "Fuck your kids up, WIN MONEY!".

And of course, because they'd have to earn more than £600 a week for them to be better off than they are now, its "not worth it". As they managed to utter 60 expletives in the program, i doubt that such a pair of degenerates has much chance of that.

In the paper today there we aligations (probably true, given what wortless shits they are) that the repulsive couple not only rob the public blind, but that the guy is guilty of benifit fraud. They claim £37k for nothing, and he works doing cash in hand building work.

Hes earning a living, but we're all paying him £37k a year anyway so he can play bingo and buy smokes to kill his children.

Thankfully punishments for such fraud are hefty (unlimited fine, 7 year jail term), so lets hope he feels the full force of the law.
