Why is the C word such a monstrosity?

Googling it didn't help surprisingly.

Is it simply such an offensive word because it IS that word(iow, no reason), or is there a history with it like with the N word?

Bet there's a couple fo UK/US peeps with some knowledge on the issue in here.

I dunno. I don't see how it's worse than other swear words. I use it from time to time, for example, when I'm expressing my feelings about Clive Tyldesley.

The "C word" was used by Shakespeare in Hamlet "Did you think I meant country matters". The actors emphasise "count" when speaking the line, so its not exactly a 20th century invention.

Most curse words have history.

And I'm not talking about the stupid made up words the internet generation youngsters comes out with on a daily basis.

Nothing wrong with the C word imo, it is common language here in Manchester and doesn't seem to cause the offence that it would in other cities. For instance I saw a fight break out in Edinburgh over fairly harmless use of the word, I guess some people see it as a much bigger slight than others.

Oh and yes, Clive Tyldesley is a grade A cnut right up there with Jamie Ballsack, Andy Gray and Alan Greene.

Ever watched Deadwood? The C word was the most used word in the script and it seems in post Victorian England that was very much the case as well. Only the middle and upper classes really considered it a vulgarity, everyone else was throwing it around like confetti.

I don't know why certain words have evolved into taboo words over the course of history

why is calling someone an elephant acceptable and calling someone a fucking elephant not? Come to think of it, who cares? lol

Different people are affected by it in different ways as the fella mentioned above, and depending how you said it & in what context

I don't know why Tohtori but women find C.u.n.t the most offensive word. Obvously not all women, but a majority it seems

This says its because its not just referring to lady parts but what you would do to them before hitting and splitting.

A lot of girls i know just hate it because they have always been told they should hate it.
