You say; I don't like children.

You get, 9 out of 10 times, pummeled.

More if you say you think they're useless until the age they can wipe their own arse and inform you that there is no arsewiping material.

No, unacceptable.

You have to smile and be polite and use this and that kind of language and act like this and that and OFCOURSE you have to think they're the cutest thing around.

All hands and attention o deck! Baby in the house.

F*ck off, it's not my baby and YOU got it.

Now...could someone please tell me why it's like this?

Oh and abbies means anything below 3 atleast.

Its not taboo. Its just that most people don't think that. Most people see a cute toddler or a tiny little baby asleep in its pram and go "aww".

I never had much time for babies / children until I became an uncle for the first time. Then I changed. Don't get me wrong - like most people their crying drives me up the wall - but when you see your own flesh & blood looking into your eyes or giving you a hug, I get all paternal & can't help melting. Thats me anyway

You never know, Toto. You find Miss Special, hell, you might even get married. She falls pregnant, Toto becomes a father, and this discussion might just as well never have existed.

I don't think it's a taboo, I think the natural instinct of most people is to protect and coo over children as they are keeping our race going, keeping your family line going etc. It's probably viewed as a bit odd by most people that you don't think like that, but not a taboo.

Calaen would have a field day with that, knowing what a "discussion" we had about it :p

If it was just a raised brow etc, i wouldn't wonder about it.

But it's not. You get answered like some kind of a murderer by most discussions if you say you can't stand babies.

Wait till you have your own or a you become an uncle :p

I think when people say they HATE babies - its the irrationality of hating something so innocent that is virtually impossible to empathise with. How can you hate (where hate is way, way, way beyond merely disliking) something that is so innocent ? Disliking is one thing - they're messy, noisy, smelly, unsociable, etc etc, but hating ?

I just find babies to be like uncooked dinner, pointless besides the end result.

Have enough experience with the little larva too, not one iota of interest.

Unless you count the urge to do scientific experiments on one an interest :D

the thing is though, if you say "kids smell", "kids are annoying" etc to a parent, they will msot likely see it as "I HATE BABIES AND YOUR SHOULD DIIIIIE!!!" then a light irk ;)

Well that is where I think you have some wiring wrong, or you just do not want to let us know your true feelings about babies :p

Nature programs us to reproduce and look after our young, you do not seem interested in either (the act of repoducing excepted), so I think you are "wired" wrong.

Why "thank you".

Yeah, guess i'm a freak of nature.

Just like millions of other people who don't want kids...

There's enough homeless kids out there, i don't need to make more children until the day every kid has a home.

If i want kids, i'll adopt, pure and simple.

I'll take care of kids in the way i take care of normal people. It's not my job to protect them in a special way, that's the parents.

If you REALLY want to know a pet peeve; ooglygoogly talk to babies...ngh...

Oh and abbies means anything below 3 atleast.

Cultural sensitivities. We have been conditioned in recent years to see children as sacrosanct, all important, first in everything. Presumably because it's helpful to continuing the species overall.

In some people though, (according to quite a few of the anthropology and psychology people i know) the desire to pass on your genes is so powerful they do not get that "general" reaction, and can only react that way to their own children.

Personally, i'm with Bill Hicks on this. Taken from his Relevations tour:
But I'll tell you this. Where's this idea that childbirth is a miracle came from. Ha, I missed that fucking meeting, okay? "It's a miracle, childbirth is a miracle." No it's not. No more than a miracle than eating food and a turd coming out of your ass. It's a chemical reaction, that's all it fucking is. If, you wanna know what a miracle is: raisin' a kid that doesn't talk in a movie theatre. Okay, there, there, there is a goddam miracle. It's not a miracle if every nine months any yin yang in the world can drop a litter of these mewling cabbages on our planet. And just in case you haven't seen the single mom statistics lately, the miracle is spreading like wild-fire. "Hallelujah!" Trailer parks and council flats all over the world just filling up with little miracles. Thunk, thunk, thunk, like frogs laying eggs. "Thunk, look at all my little miracles, thunk, filling up my trailer like a sardine can. Thunk. You know what would be a real miracle, if I could remember your daddy's name, aargh, thunk. I guess I'll have to call you Lorry Driver Junior. Thunk. That's all I remember about your daddy was his fuzzy little pot-belly riding on top of me shooting his caffeine ridden semen into my belly to produce my little water-headed miracle baby, urgh. There's your brother, Pizza Delivery Boy Junior.

I know i've posted the above before, but it's so true it bears repeating

ah...but do they not want kids because they have the same views as you ?

they might just want their independence
they might be the sort of people who say "how can you bring a child up in a world as shitty as this"
etc etc etc <insert 100s of reasons here>

Out of interest, what views would that be?

i answered Ch3tan who clearly said that i'm wired wrong for not wanting to reproduce. Reason is irrelevant.

Though he does make a point in case;

"Don't want kidS? Don't particularly care for babies? Must be wired wrong!"

lemme back track...

You don't like kids. Fair enough
You said millions of people choose not to have kids. True

What I was trying to say was the millions of people who choose not to have kids may choose to do so not because they don't like kids per se (which I think is where you're coming from) but for medical / financial / religious / cultural / social independence / moral or many other reasons I've not mentioned.

You misunderstood, it was simply an answer to Ch3tans claim that i'm wired wrong.

Because according to him, millions of people are wired wrong then?

I didn't say why people don't have kids, to each their own reasons.

my old man always said children should be seen and not heard. I expanded on that to add that they also shouldn't be smelled.

Hate them...no.

Nah not that strictly toht; I was being quite specific to you based on views you have expressed over time on kids, marriage etc. Maybe there are lots of people that feel like that, might just be natures way of trying to control our population. But I certainly do not think that it's the way the majority are "programmed".

Yeah but you can see how rude that sounds, or maybe not rude, but insulting.

Basically makes me feel like, well, like i said earlier; like you're thinking of me like some serial killer.

Marriage doesn't come to natural programming at all ;)

I can do insulting if you want? How about:

It's natural selection at work, nature can see that having another toht in this world just would not be good. Hence nature has programmed you to not reproduce.

Hows that? :D

That's actually more polite then saying i'm somehow mentally challenged :p

I can take people calling me a bastard, cold, emotionless, android, etc, but call me somehow defected, nu-uh :D

You will be happy to know that i won't be reproducing though, unless they figure out cloning.

Adopted kids if any, thank you. Would feel much more better(as getting kids is nothing but selfish ;)) to know i've given a home to some kid who got bummed by life.

If i remember correctly, it's case by case, though you are right that it's always the mans fault, mans responsibility etc. LEGALLY SPEAKING.

Females don't pay child support do they? Hmm? HMM?!

Equal rights my arse.

Luckily we have lying.

If i remember correctly, even if they do get slapped with a support bill, no one cares if they pay it or not.

Even the services tend to put them in the bottom pile.

No where as near as strict as towards the men.

It's biased as f*ck.
