Why does it take so long to get broadband?

Ive recently moved home *yay* and have ordered broadband.
I have just found out from the ISP I have ordered the broadband from that BT have to clear off a marker left by a previous service on this phone line.

Ok fine no problems with that...but that clearing the marker thing is going to take 2 weeks!! Wtf is that all about? Why does this take so long? Surely its just a matter of clicking a few buttons on a computer!

A day or 2 maybe but not 2 bloody weeks!!

I want my broadband back! I miss css :(

It's not like they're sitting around waiting for things to do.

Well...they only take a day or 2 to get the phone line up and running in the house so I would have thought this would be a simpler task...

It's not BTs fault. If someone has marked the line BT can't do anything except wait or else they'll get fined by Ofcom.

By brother recently moved flat, he rang BT and asked to setup his new line, they told him that someone had asked change his line to NTL and that they can't do anything until the hold by NTL expires. Despite him proving to them that he lives there and has total control over the line - they still couldn't do anything. His took a month for the marker to "expire".
