Why do people who hate the game so much keep playing and hanging around

a: complain and whine all the time about how crap the game is/goa/mythic/etc and yet still play day on day
b: people who are ex players who keep hanging round moaning and bitching.

Why not, just stop playing, move on and do something more to your liking....

Playing is fun, but moaning that the playing could be even more fun makes the concept of a MMORPG-complete

People who now say UO was the best MMO ever whined just as much on Origin as we do now on Mythic. And when we're all in WoW/Darkfall/Dragon Empires we'll be telling the newcomers how DAoC had immensely better systems for this and that.

Well.. Don't underestimate addiction. I hear people bitching about smoking too, yet they continue to do it - simply because quitting can be so hard once addicted.

Also I think many find that there is no decent alternative to DAoC yet.

I still haven't gotten around to bitching about the game - when the frustration factor gauge is filled I simply take a break.

Strangely enough, I've seen a fair share of threads bitching about other people bitching

Why do you even care?

Why do ppl make whine threads about people whining? These things go round in circles and never end.

Instead of making a whine thread about whining, why not do something more productive like grow some hair?

If ppl didnt whine nothing would ever improve, whining on a forum gives folk with the same opinion on a class, style etc etc to come to an agree on what should be patched to solve their specific class related problem.

This gives mythic/goa an easy suggestion ready made suggestion on what the player base wants.

i think its because at one time the game was about getting to 50 along the way picking up a good enough weapon getting your epic and going to rvr then you had lvls in rvr which you had to climb,then you had to go work out a template for your sc suit then you had to find someone to make the suit and sc it for you just before that you had to farm 15+ plat to cost that suit go to new areas get uber weapons ect ect now you have to go and get artifacts and lvl them and where do you end up 30+ hours later back at rvr where you was and you was happy and if you don't do these you don't go to rvr expecting decent battles i work 40 hours a week i can't keep up with all the doleys who and the people with nothing else in thier lives apart from doac (and sorry no punctuation before some smart ass tries to pick up on it cos they want a +1 post.yes i'm literate and have an a level in english but when you talk to 11 year olds some times they don't appreciate it anyway)

How about because some of us have been playing the game for over 2 years and started playing it when it WAS still a damn fine game, and we dislike the way Mythic have changed it, but having spent 2 years of our lives building up characters and friendships we don't want to see it all go to waste or end.

Did that ever occur to you?

If you want a game to just pick up and play and leave without any emotion, go play counter strike or quake, some of us want a little more from the game and the community that surrounds it.

Agree, biggest problem with mythic is that they dont listen to players enough but instead add their own, many times not necessary/stupid things. For example, some time ago they announced that spiritmasters can now get valkyn and frostalf pets too, omg!!1 great that the important issues are being worked on.. And people have been asking really simple things like fixing artifact decay rates or letting us dye artifact cloaks, but nooo...

I agree with Asty, but it’s the same story with most (if not all) MMORPG's. The company doesn't (at least appear) to take much interest in its consumers and outside the standard ‘news’ there is very little regular (regular being the key word here) interaction with people from afore mentioned company and the player base.

Kind of silly really when Customer Service is becoming a bigger and bigger part of business. Of course, I don't expect this to be any different. GOA closing down the 'Official' forums was proof enough that they weren’t overly interested in player opinion. The same can be said for Mythic in a degree, since they changed the ‘Developers Round Table’ they don’t appear to have had much interaction outside of ‘Team-Leader Feedback’ and Sanya’s Grab bags. Maybe GOA works with the FH people? Maybe not? But we (the players) don't see any of this going on, and as such we can only assume nothing is being done.


It’s a real shame. GOA had something with 'Eviross' though on that count I suspect we only have the community to blame for his disappearance. Odds are that his forum mailbox was filled with utter crap from people trying to by-pass Rightnow in the same manner that I’d assume people spam Kemor/Zargars FH accounts & GOA email addresses - again in an attempt to bypass Rightnow. (Please don’t start the Rightnow sucks argument again, or the America has in game CRS whine either.)

So I suppose it works both ways though, GOA needs to hold out their proverbial olive branch more. But we as a community need to be more open to the idea and try to accept what we're given.

Yes, you could argue we pay. But does that give you the right to be an asshole? You pay for GOA to provide a service, but in being an asshole about it you actually limit the form in which GOA will offer that service. You could even argue to the extreme that all we pay GOA for is to maintain, operate and support the servers. The Website, the Weekly News, Hell - even Rightnow are all extra's that GOA have added to the package. Of course, that’s probably going too far. But most of what we enjoy is at GOA's own discretion.

Look at the forums, I mean actually look for a change. Not just skim over the titles. Go into the posts and read them. There’s a disturbingly negative feeling to a lot of posts, and every time something unexpected happens you can see that there is a near instant flood of 'I HATE GOA - I'M QUITTING' posts. We really can't expect GOA to go that extra distance and provide services above and beyond what we pay them for if we don't appreciate what we have.

Of course, all this doesn't matter. It’s unlikely that this post will even be viewed by any of the GOA staff, hell. The second I press 'Submit Reply' I’m going to get l33t d00d X, Cptn Pwn, and sm1ty Jr. spamming hastily constructed replies calling me a GOA fan-boi and how I’m wrong, and evil and bite Kittens heads off. They’ll probably find one or two spelling mistakes too, maybe criticize my grammar. Generally do their best to pump up their already heavily over-inflated egos

I suppose you could ask in that case "Why the hell bother if you know that’s going to happen?" - Well if you hadn't noticed the above post contains no jokes... no cheap puns, I actually put a fair amount of thought into it and I think its at least a fairly good representation of my opinion on the subject - Forums are all about differences of opinions, however where they fail is that there is no way to separate those who are able to discuss and argue their own opinions, and those who bitch, kick, whine, scream and moan about how unfair everything. Basically, in order to get my opinion across to the people who matter I’ve got to tolerate the mob mentality of what I’d probably refer to as the scum of the forum. Yes, scum. I don’t like the way people like that fold to mob mentality like weak minded little children so desperate to make ‘friends’ their willing to sacrifice their morals and ethics to do it.

Here's a brief summary for those who can't be bothered to read the whole thing: Go away, if you can't be bothered to read it all don't bother replying to any of it!

In all respect, Mythic tried to do something for everyone. But I'm not like most people, nor could I tell you exactly what I'm looking for in DaoC. I just know the game in its current state no longer satisfies me.

Yes, I miss my few friends that I had ingame. (I did have friends, honest !!111). Joke aside, that was the hardest part to break away from. As for those that still whine but play, I suppose some of them will leave pretty soon. Most are idling in DaoC, waiting for WoW, or god knows what else. The other half are probably the zerglings that fed me my realm rank, throughout the game

Personally I actually quit the game on two occasions because I was just bored of it and had far too many things going on in my life to keep going, the second time was for about 4 months, but in the end i came back and did other stuff in game and rediscovered why i enjoy it so much.

If people are addicted to it then that's really quite sad. I can take it or leave it personally and I think i've got a good balance. I play in the evenings because after working all day and being stressed it's funand good stress relief, sometimes I play at weekends, but rarely that much these days because i don't live with my girlfriend and until we move in together time spent together is precious.

For people who dislike the game to keep on putting energy into it is quite sad.

The game has changed. Some people like the direction, others don't, but if the game had remained static then it would have got old and boring very fast.

Most people in my experience tend to want goals in games, whether it's to be the best at RvR, or to get a new RR or a set of ML's or items they work towards those goals. Once goals are achieved though there is little more than repetition.....
