I don't understand, had big argument with guildy about light spec, was putting all into light but my baseline was still slightly ahead????
He started saying you need to spec in light to make your baseline more effective??
Gave up on light and started speccing ench, he's as tough as old boots now.
Maxing out in light only gives around 40 dmg more than base, whats the point??

Flawed logic I'm afriad Charonel (still smells faintly like a troll too hehe). Enchanters can spec so the pet does lots of dmg and the chanter not much (spec Enchantments high) or so the chanter does the dmg and the pet just holds aggro/meat shields (high mana/light).

The thing I noticed with my light chanter was that the temptation was to start nuking away too early. Not early enough to get aggroed, but earlier than is neccessary to actually kill it. Chain nuking the mob when it is at 75% it is not as power efficient as letting the pet take a beating until the mob is ~50%, dropping a big heal, then nuking until death. Its v.dull because you tend to just stand there like a lemon watching the pet slowly die twiddling your thumbs. The path of a light chanter is v.v.v.v.boring, after all (compared to the insanity that is manabombing)

Also, I have played every pet class in this game now, and believe me, the chanter is far and away the best (in this patch, and arguably still is in 1.53). Not many other classes can solo purples (and I have soloed a purple with a chanter, once and only once, but I did it). My light chanter could routinely solo oranges/reds and could chain blues all day with negligible downtime.

1.5spec points, lol, I don't think so :)

ok i'm pouring my hopes into the ally just now, simply put i have more enchantment spec than light, meaning i use the baseline DD because i have nothing else :p

the problem is that i can't let the pet get an orange down to 50% without healing it like 4 times or something, which will quite rightly aggro the hell out of the mob onto me :), now since nobody seems to like the idea of me getting 1.5 spec points (boohoo :() i'm just soloing yellows/blue's until i get the next pet, ally, which wears scale so i'm wondering if it's a better tank than the friend and will allow me to spec light like i want too :)

if it works then yay, great,

if not however... I WANT MY SPEC POINTS! :D

Well, even if your pet does 100% dmg he only steals 25% exp. So its possible with your spec that chaining blues/yellows is more efficient in terms of exp/time than soloing oranges then sitting on your ass regenning power.

There aren't actually that many classes that can solo orange as reliably as a chanter (non-gimped). And you really don't need to solo orange with a pet class for the exp not to suck (pet doing 100% dmg will steal 25% exp, and not many chanters are pet only). Exp over time and downtime considerations taken into account, chaining yellows rocks, and chanters do that superbly.

With little enchy spec my pets hold agro easily,, since i use a low light nuke w/ high heat debuff

No it isnt, its capped at 1,5 just as weapon swings, mythic THINKS it is 2 seconds, but its actually 1,5. Been tested and proven countless times.

Because otherwise they would be even more overpowered.
Next question?

Havin more points in light incraces the minimum damage of you're way of sun blasts, just like weapon specs do. If you use sun blast and have 0 in light you will find the nuke extremely unstabile, like first do 24 damage then 124 etc...

yeah, imagine if you had to cast spells or do something to be able to chainkill oranges! heaven forbid :p

*rolls eyes*

Casters have 1.0 spec points for a reason - they either choose versatility or power... if they had 1.5 they'd have both.

I actually thought that was a troll on the main boards :)

what pet are you using?

is it a caster/healer pet? or the first level tank pet?

The pets as they go up aren't necessarily better versions of the old ones - they just have different abilities..

compare to the cabalist (another class that can almost solo purples ;))

amber: stuns, loadsa hp
ruby: crap fire proc, crap hp
sapphire: lifetap, middle hp

for tanking the amber is the best... although the sapphire can be good when it lifedrains as it heals itself...

Yup, my eldritch gets almost no variance on baseline nukes (I use them sometimes if a mob is heat vulnerable, spec nukes are cold :p)
