Ok, so I participated in a "cantus" yesterday. not sure if you guys know what it is. basicly it's all about singing and drinking beer.
A cantus (Latin for 'singing', derived from 'canere'), is an activity organised by Belgian and Dutch and Baltic student organisations and fraternities. A cantus mainly involves singing traditional songs and drinking beer. It is governed by strict traditional rules. The use of this dates back a few centuries and was inspired by German student organisations; however some of the songs that are sung date back to the Middle Ages. Cantus probably shares same roots with Commercium, Sitsit and Tableround.

Anyway the more you drink, the drunker you'll get and so the louder you'll sing which leads to more punishment(drinking beer ohno! :d) because you make mistakes with the singing. Conclusion: YOU WILL GET DRUNK :)

Anyway. It started at 20.30 and lasted to 2.00 AM. Ofcourse, everyone there was drunk. And I can really remember everything that has happened yesterday. really, all the discussion I had, where it was / how much I drank..
16 adfundums and 6 big pints of stella artois, all that for 7 euro
After the cantus we went to our studentbar and had a couple more drinks.

The wierd thing is! I can't remember how I got from the cantus place to our studentbar. Neither I can remember how I got home from the studentbar. But I CAN remember everything that happened in the bar.

I use my bike to get home. Why is this? I'm thinking it has something to do with the fresh air. I mean I have been drunk before and I normally remember getting home :d. Good part was I did everything correctly. closed the door, put off my bikes lights, brushed my teeth etc. So no harm done :worthy:

no you dont remember everything else, you just think you do, just cause you didnt have major blackouts in the bar doesnt mean you remember everything that happened. i thought like, everyone knew you get memory losses once in a while if you drink a lot?

Perhaps, but I still find it strange that it only happened when I was moving to places. But pretty sure you have a much richer real life experience as me and prolly a better education. So I'll believe you for once :)

same thing happens when you get tired, think its got something to do with the fact that its repetitive, i.e. something you do alot (go home), but in the bar, it was a new experience and so required more of your concious brains' concentration.

where as when you are going home, you have done it soo much before that your brain sorta switches off and thinks about other things.i get this alot when driving in familiar places (scarerly), i havnt fallen asleep at the wheel, but 9/10 if im driving home within my own town, i dont actually remember the journey.

Getting home is something you do "on the auto-pilot" I think, which means there's no reason for your brain to remember it, and when it already has a hard time remembering the important things (read: stuff that happened at the bar :p) it won't remember the mundane things.
At least that's my theory :)

EDIT: Oh, much the same as Neffneff :p

It's basicly that alcohol effects the "electricity" flow in your brain, limiting the power it can substain.

So it reroutes the power to primary functions, like sanitation, life support and mobility and let's the rest go on autopilot.

We are but machines. No not BUTT machines. Though some characters here are :D

The net on the other hand sayes this:

Blackouts, defined as periods of amnesia (memory loss), are caused when alcohol consumption levels prevent the formation of memories in the brain. These levels vary from person to person, and the time frame of these memory lapses is not always marked by visible altered states of consciousness. For example, you and your friends could go to a bar tonight, have some drinks, and talk about politics. But tomorrow, when your friends recall in detail the previous evening's discourse, you may not recall the actual conversation even though you were a full and competent participant. This point is important because blackouts are often confused with passing out, which does constitute a change in consciousness.

So basicly you don't need the memory.

Personally i've had fun ones, like forgetting the part from bar to home and basicly having a timejump. Always fun. And not so fun ones, like having three beers(can't handle it, lard liquor no problem) and forgetting the whole night. It's...weird and you get anxcious as hell what you did when your phone shows you answered a friend at 5am :eek7:

But i don't mind it, i just live on.

I'd be a little worried about your concious level if you were found drinking this on a night out.

Lard liquor is the one where you drink so much you wake up next to a fat chick. Don't you know anything? :D

Meant hard liquor and nice burn.
