Whose your favorite actor/actress?

Day-Lewis isn't that underrated, I just think he tends to avoid a lot of roles because of his style. He takes acting very seriously. I thought he was alright in Gangs of new York though.

Oldman was excellent in Leon, although I've never been impressed with him quite as much in anything else I've seen him in.

not in those words, but I've heard plenty of people treat him with disdain as an actor mostly because he's married to Jennifer Aniston it seems.

You're probably right. The ignorant and the cinematically inept are usually to blame.

Sean Penn - quality actor (good performance in Carlito's Way, shame about the wig). He has the balls to say what he thinks too which earns respect.

Brad Pitt - nah I agree too. Outstanding in Fight Club and no I don't think anyone has really classed him as just a pretty boy (not in recent years anyway).

Ed Norton - yup, another one of the same mould as Gary Oldman imho. Bit of a maverick and intense.

Nil by Mouth is a great piece of film indeed Mr leggy, not the easiest to watch. Kathy Burke impressed me no end in that too.

I think Day-Lewis IS highly rated. Scorsese wouldn't have cast him otherwise in his pet project. He's another intense fruit loop too :)

See...we can all agree :)

But rarely mentioned when it comes to favoured actors.

Has anyone said Jack Nicholson yet?

Jack Nicholson is great in One Flew but I'm bored of his "grumpy old man" character which he seems to portray constantly.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned Brando yet :)

I like Gene Hackman (specially in enemy of the state).

Its so hard to choose a favourite actor as there are so many, and they all have good and bad films. If you had a name your 10 fav actors thread then I would be ok :)

Enemy of the state? Any actor appearing alongside Will Smith loses a lot of credibility. Speaking of Will Smith isn't it about time he started appearing on every single show possible to promote his new dire movie? He does it every time.

In no particular order

Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro
Russell Crowe (ok those 3 are in order, the rest aren't)

Tom Cruise
Vanessa Redgrave
Gary Oldman
Natalie Portman
Denzel Washington
Robert Duvall
Marlon Brando
Ed Norton
Harvey Keitel

Its strange really how difficult it is to remember good actressess from the top of my head. I guess that serves to remind me how few films have leading ladies.

I thought Daniel Day Lewis is a fucking legendary actor with Gangs Of New York, (Goddamn Psycho) The Last Of The Mohicans and My Left Foot.

Brad Pitt is excellent in 12 Monkeys, Seven, Kalifornia (How could you people forget?) and Fight Club.

Peeps have also forgotten the likes of Harrison Ford (Freakin' Legend!) and Tom Hanks, both have delivered extremely good performances.

Yeah, i only know modern actors. :(

Xtro smells, bad btw.

I was about to suggest Tom Hanks, he is a fantastic actor whatever he does, and some of the most emotional and memorable scenes in history involve him.

Oh and of course the legendary James Stewart.

I'd like to reiterate my nomination for Jean Reno after watching Léon again, and add Natalie Portman. Class film, class actors, class direction, class.

I'm going to run the risk of saying that Tom Cruise is my favourite actor, even though I know I'll get abuse for it.

Eyes Wide Shut was his finest moment.

To make myself look even more gay I'm going to say that Brad Pitt is an awsome actor as well.
