As you may have gathered another of the Freddies is now a proud Daddeh (DaGaffer). Reading the thread it got me thinking about how many of us are Daddehs or Mummehs....

So I will start:

What's the attraction in having kids? Yes, I really mean that seriously, because I really can't see the attraction.

Until 24 hours ago, I wasn't really sure. I've kind of had a vague feeling that something was missing in my life for a few years, and to be honest I'd always thought I'd have kids one day in that kind of tick-the-box way that most people who end up with children have, but then I started to think I'd missed the boat at my age (and having a kid in my forties is going to present its own challenges). All through the pregnancy it still felt pretty unreal. But then yesterday arrived and suddenly you have this little bundle that's 50% of...you, and I felt "ah, there it is, the point of everything". When you get right down to it, that's all we're here for.

Of course there will be sleepness nights and empty wallets for the next few years and no doubt she'll break my heart at some point, because we all do that to our parents in one way or another, but that first five minutes I was with her will always balance that out.

That answer your question?

It kind of does for me, yet (and without judging anyone else's decisions/lifestyle choices) at the same time it horrifies me. :(

I was in exactly the same position as you before I had my first one. I couldn't stand the idea of kids.
I'll be honest with you. I didn't "take" or "bond" with my first one until she was almost 3. There were a number of reasons, but once she started having a personality and you could converse with her in a simple way, she was a lot easier to get on with.
I took to my second one almost straight away. I think it's because I'd already got my personal emotional baggage and prejudices out of the way with my first one and could just enjoy the ride.
I also took to my third quite quickly. He's a smiler which always helps, because he can be a right pain when he's climbing up everything. :)

None of them were "planned", but that doesn't take anything away from the enjoyment we've got from them.

There are 3 advantages to having kids.
1) Once she's pregnant, you can shag her as much as you like because you can't get her pregnant again until she's had the kid. Then it's back to "playing safe".
2) Your extended family gets that bit closer because they want to play with the kids, then hand them back to you at the end of the day.
3) Christmas. You can't beat the look on their face when they see those presents on Christmas Day. It's best when they're about 3 or 4 because they're old enough to understand that Santa has paid them a visit during the night.

Y'see, I think the pill is even more fun than this! ;)

couldn't agree more, hence me never ever getting any.

i have a niece, i'm happy with that.

i can go visit and if she's to much of a pain in the arse i just tell her to fuck off and then i go home :)

its just to perfect to ruin...

and there we have the whole argument for not getting any :)

ppl think having a child is such a blessing when its infact the complete opposite.... :p

having a child means at least 15 years of nonstop suffering....

blessing??
