Who do you want?

If you were the manager of your favourite team who would you sign this summer to improve your squad to push for promotion or whatever? These have to be realistic, so no Wrexham fans signing Ronaldo to replace Morrell thx!

For Swindon I feel we need most of all another striker - or two - mainly because Danny and Eric have both left the club, so ideally I'd like someone with a bit of experience who is proven at this level and is pacey. We've already signed one young striker from Leicester City who has pace but he's a bit young I feel, so probably won't be ready for first team football. He'll be backup/rotation pushing for a first team spot.

In addition to up front a left footed midfielder would be nice to balance out the team, unfortunately they seem to be difficult to come by at this level so I won't hold my breath. We've got a long term injury coming back to fitness for pre-season - Keith O'Halloran. He's likely to fill in or replace Hewlett (hopefully) in midfield which will be like a new signing in itself, seeing as he's been out for the best part of a season and a bit with a broken leg.

We also need to sign another central defender preferably for backup, as I can see Reeves giving us another seasons service. If not, someone to try and replace someone pretty much irreplacable imo.

Due to our shit finances, all of these people will have to come on a free transfer (probably, I think £40K is our maximum for transfer fees) and not demand huge wages.

And yes, we were linked with Gazza. No, we don't want him.

As a Toon fan I would like to see someone like Southgate to partner Woody for next season.

We have great potential in Bramble and I would like to see him brought along by a great pro like Southgate. The signing of him would give us a real cahnce of winning something this season :)

We need a new striker at St Mary's. We've already got the perfect foil for Beattie in Pahars, but unfortunately I think we've seen the last of him, his injury problems have been dreadful this year and whilst I'd love to see him come back to form I don't think it's going to happen. Tessem doesn't have the pace, Ormerod doesn't have the ability, Delgado has a runny nose.

So, who to buy... I'd love to see Zola in a Southampton strip. He's fast, creative, has incredible vision, and lifts the whole team. I reckon he's got at least another 2 year's quality in him yet. I'd also take Mutu (Parma), but chances of getting him are slim - the reason he's unhappy at Parma is they don't pay him enough.

According to this Bierhoff might be heading your way, although i don't think it'll happen myself you never know. Also is Delgado actually going to be fit for this season Stu? According to a story on the same site his agent says he is, even if there is a rumour floating about he's got a back injury.

we only need a couple of additions to the squad although if I was manager there would be plenty of players going out as well

Mainly we need a wide player (either left or right) someone like Damien Duff or even Mido (there have been some rumours) as put simply Diouf (makeshift wide man) and Smicer are shite.

Secondly we need another 20+ goal a season striker as Heskey just aint cuttin it, we have Baros and Mellor in reserve but they are too green atm to take the pressures of 40-50 games a season (I aint even gonna mention El-Hadji)

Finally we need a decent central defensive partner for Sami as Stephane is much too injury prone and he always seems to have a grimace on his face no matter what he is going at the time...

My choice for players in:
  • Damien Duff
  • Steve Finnan (even though it looks like he is on the way)
  • Alain Boumsong or Phillipe Mexes (unlikely)
  • Patrick Kluivert (even though his wages would be stupid)
My choice for players out:
  • Bruno Cheyrou
  • Igor Biscan
  • Gregory Vignal (I think he is on his way)
  • Jamie Carragher
  • Vladimer Smicer
  • Abel Xavier
  • Patrik Berger (his contract is up and Liverpool aren't renewing it)

As a West Ham fan I'd say it's more a case of not letting anyone go, rather than signing anyone new :(

Bierhoff? Interesting... I was going to mention him actually. Although we've been linked with pretty much every striker over the past couple of months.

As for Delgado... it depends what you class as "fit". I think he's physically fine really, but his heart's not in it and he realises he's made a big mistake coming to England. Which is fair enough, I just wish someone in South America would take him back so we didn't have to pay his wages any more.

May I ask how you ended up supporting Southampton when you're from Leeds stu?

No, it's the same reason I support Swindon whilst living slap bang in the middle of their fiercest rivals home.

It's just how most people end up supporting a team, nothing bad about carrying on a tradition or whatever.
