Lets look at two of the biggest bottler sin World football. England and Spain. Both have fantastic squads, always end up being favourites for the enxt cup. Yet they always fall at the same hurdle year in, year out.

Anyway, discuss!

Come off it, the England team the past 10 years has been underachievers, Owen, Shearer, Beckham, Scholes, Ferdinand, Gerrard, Rooney. Hardly garbage

Dont get me wrong...their all good and great players...i just feel that sometimes the english media (which we are bombarded with here across the water) make them out to be better that they actully are

Maybe the best English player, not the best English internation(funnily enough, Crouch has scored the goals yet he is wank at club level)

Never saw that, I fail to see why he would get the vote over Gerrard or Terry

even gerrard isnt amazing for england, he's good but not great like he is at liverpool and not consistant, imo englands best palyers are people like terry, owen, joe cole and owen hargreaves not the massive club stars like rooney gerrard lampard and rio

edit* Barry and Richards are proving that again atm

Barry is the key that England have been missing. he is always fighting for the ball. Richards is fantastic too, better than Neville. England with Richards are playing attacking football like Brazil :p

agree, think the current line up is best we've had in ages, defence is perfect cole gerrard and barry really good, not sure if i preffer SWP or Aaron lennon though and i dont much rate rooney so but unfortunatly no1 else stands out to partner Owen atm

voted spain since england never look like winning the tournaments they are in, spain on the other hand usually do then for some unknown reason simply stop playing football and watch the other teams spank them

Wikipedia said:
He was selected in the squad for Euro 2004 in Portugal. England reached the quarter-finals with Lampard having an exceptional tournament. He scored three goals in four matches and was named in the official Euro 2004 All-Star squad by the UEFA technical study group.[21] With Paul Scholes's retirement from international football, Lampard finally became a fixture in Sven-Göran Eriksson's squad, scoring five goals during England's successful World Cup qualifying campaign, and wearing the number 8 shirt that Scholes vacated. This culminated in him being voted England Player of the Year by fans in 2004 and 2005.

So essentially, he along with the rest of the england team had a shit world cup. However because he hasn't been at his best for England in a while (along with a lot of players, might i add), he's become a victim of the media and cynical fans.

You see this is the English problem they are not garbarge but you look in world football and you will find many better players at the same position. Rooney is my favorite example a good player yes but a fair way off being the best in the world. But the English press build him up soo much we all start to believe he is the best striker in the world.

SWP as he can cross the ball a lot better than Lennon :p

Lennon in 3-4 years time, SWP is on form this year

And Spain is....?

Rly if u complaint about the british media hype.... you should see wot they write around here.
Last WC after beating a joke of a team called Ukrayne for 4-1, the headers were the like of "The Cup is ours!!!11". Then all of a sudden, after being trashed by the frogs in quarters, the media was bitching about the team, the players, the manager.... Same old same old.

This weekened Spain beat Denmark 3-1. Game was awfull, danish could have perfectly tied the game if not for Casillas and their lack of precision. Guess the headers of the newspapers on sunday morning?? Yes, "We are favourite" "Brilliant" "This is a team!!" and so on. Yet again, same old same old. I confess i was hoping for a defeat so i get rid of the fukin media hype next summer.

Sorry, but when it comes to either Englanders or Spaniards, i just dont buy it :)

the difference being ukraine are actually a reasonable side, unlike say, macedonia :p

i have no idea what the spanish press say, but i imagine its the same in every country... (hell the danish press have been going on about how it could be denmarks year since the start, now its all like "omg we didnt get lucky like '92 and neither sweden or spain likely to break out into civil war... so how the hell do we qualify now?!?!

i guess only two countries left to cheer for, for me anyway, are england (As i live here) and scotland (because they could knock out either france or italy which would be hi-larious :p )
