in terms of evolution...could one argue primates are "further up the ladder" than bears ?

Dude, hunting bows are extraordinarily powerfull and will drop anything short of a rhino or an elephant.

And Hawkind speed and agility can win it for you... if you have some sort of edge to make up for the difference in size and weaponry, which the gorilla does not.

One could argue that a gorilla could jump on the bears back, striking crushing blows to the back of the neck, attempt to strangle him with those powerfull arms, or scratch his eyes out. But it wont, because that is not how gorillas fight... they run straight up.
A bears "fighting style" is just superior when it comes to interspecies fighting. It utilizes all it's strengths perfectly, unlike gorillas.
If you could teach a gorilla BJJ, it might infact be a formidable fighter. But for now, it's a majestic animal that is much better off not fighting bears
