Afaik Eggman is the japanese name for him, the early EU and American versions called him robotnik, however after a while, they dropped it and switched to the japanese name.

Theres been alot of mess ups, translation errors and inconsistencies with the english and japanese versions of sonic. for example, mobius, the japanese have always seen the place sonic is set on as earth. however, the american and euro manuals stated that the planet was called mobius. this mix up originated from a translation error during an interview where someone was talking about a "mobius strip" used in sonic 2.

yeah I read that on wikipedia, like I said in another thread I used to read sonic the comic... I can remember getting the first issue. Great storyline, much better than the archie comic one and the shit cartoons. I never really thought that humans had a place in the sonic storyline, thats why I thought mobius was a more viable place for sonic to live.

on a side note: ain't shadow just a lame version of sonic with a gun? i've watched the cartoon on tv and he's supposed to be uber, but he's just a clone of sonic, and a knobhead...

Shadow the Hedgehog first appeared in Sonic Adventure 2 and was meant to be the ultimate life form, or something like that. He's meant to be a darker version of Sonic, but is more a case that he's one confused hedgehog. Some times I think the Sonic world is a little over populated now and there seems to be no stop to the new characters.
