Are Quakers the non-violent people (I'm remembering an old Woody Allen joke )

I knew this lady and she went to a quaker meeting, they all sat down really quiet and when someone had a good thought they'd say it then sit down and be quiet again.... tbh i reather liked the sound of that, only talking when you have something worth while to say and not blathering on and on and on.

quick question are the quakers and the armish (amish?) from the same group or are they different?

Two of the nicest people I ever met in my life were quakers, one was a very intelligent cell biology lecturer I had at uni, who spent countless hours of unpaid overtime helping his students out with all their modules.

The other was a stunning beautiful and very down to earth art student I shared a house with in my uni days, she makes weird art though

Wasn't Clarks shoes founded on Quaker principles, with fair wages and treatment of its workers, something that was seeen as a little weird at the time?

Would have to say Athiest. i aint narrow minded. but its just too hard <in barts words not mine> to worship a 2000 year old carpenter. I think if people were given the option to believe and not forced to from a early age, the term religion would have a different meaning to us all.

i was born and bred into christanity still forced to do two 40 minute classes a week of a religon i choose not to follow. Insta baptised when your born, 3rd class = First holy comunion(sp) i am willing to bet that most irish kids, if you asked them, whats the first thing they think of when you say holy comnunion. is all the free money from relatives. Same with recieving Teh Holy Spirit.

Long story short. I gave my life to god when i was 11, i took it back when i was 16.

Never called it forcing, even if i'm not a "sheep" as jesus himself said! Trust me, part of the flog, he's the sheppard and you're the sheep...honestly. I called it learning. It was fun to learn from other religions, well, at the time i would've been a dumbass to tell anyone i didn't believe in that religion, but what i knew was a different one.

You would've been "forced" to do something else if you weren't there.

This happened to me too - and I was on the verge of giving it all up as myth until I had an encounter with God It changed my views on everything (except on how Aqua managed to get classified as a "band")

I'm an agnostic.
Personally I don't think there's a God, neither do I say that there isn't. Hard to explain, really.

The only thing I believe in is "Death", and if Death is a "person"/creature, then he/she/it must be God. Could explain why people get murdered/killed or die in so many pointless way.

Religion was formed as a late excuse for humans bad behavior to each other (around the time Grrrrsmf and Shrrrffm still used stones and clubs to fight each other). Each religion came with some terms of behavior. As usual humans found a way to quibbling these words, so it was to their own benefit. Nowsaday the religious just lives on their ancestors quibbling of the true meaning of the bibles...

Yeah (apologies for the slightly delayed answer) Quakers are usually really really nice people It just gives you a slightly more serene outlook on life I guess.

I've just got back in contact with some of my old Quaker friends - used to have so much fun together. And lol no, we were nothing like a Christian Youth Group^^ Not unless christian youth groups smoke pot and metal out to Slayer and Deicide

think you miss-read it terrible.
What I meant was actually that humans never have been good to act good to each other, without strict rules (I believe it was even worse before religion existed). This is here religion comes into the picture, as it has a some strict rules to follow. Sadly people twist these words to benefit their own good.

The last thing here can probably be discussable.

I don't think I agree with that either. As I think that morale is still possible without a god and that the morale in religion is nothing but the expression of a morale which was already generally accepted.
