Which Processor?

I have a problem. I am building my own computer, and I dont know what processor to choose. So far, I have a Geforce 3, 40 Gig hard drive, 512MB Ram, Alcaltel Speedtouch USB ADSL modem, and a Coolermaster case. My machine will be primarily used for online gaming, although I am using it as a full time webserver too. I know that an Athlon makes a much better games machine, but ive heard that it lacks 2D power. So, I have also been considering a Pentium 4. Which one should I choose? I need a good processor at around 1.4GHz or so.
