Hi guys just need help deciding what MP3 player to go for.

Either the Iriver or the iPod

So please can I have some feedback from people who have either of these and if there are any other models I should be thinking of, list them too

TIA :)

Well everyone is gonna start shouting "iPOD!!11 I have been so cool since i got mine!!one"

Zen Jukebox amazon don't have any in the 20gb flavour, but you can get the 30gb zen NX. But if you are obsessed with spending stupid money on stupid things, get an iPod mini.

Cheaper plus you can say i don't have an ipod. Always worth it :)

Still begs the question why the fuck do you need 20/30gb of storage?! and for 200 quid odd.

personally, unless you plan on transporting huge files across then i'm certain 256-512mb is fine - mp3 wise

i mean 256 is ~4hours of music or so..... >,<

Thanks for the feedback dood :)
/edit: Just checked the amount of choons I have and I have a fair whack and it only comes to just under 500Mb so I think 512Mb capacity is enough :)

Im also on the lookout for an MP3 player jukebox, due to budget limatations ive almost settled on the creative labs jukebox zen xtra - 30gb version.
the I-pod looks good, but i need to be able to replace the battery when it goes flat ( ie carry a spare) as im not always near a power source when i need to be.
thres the CreativeMuvo2 ( 2.6" x 2.6" x 0.8") which has a 4gb micro hard drive built in, that has a replaceable battery, and has an FM radio adaptor ( costs extra) but a small screen. £175, theres also a 1.5gb version for £150

Also on my list was the Archo GMini 20gb mp3 player, its a good sizel, but archos stuff has had a few bad reviews on sound quality.

Above my budget is the rio karma, its small (2.7” X 3.0” X 1.1” ) and has some very good reviews

what i will probably end up getting is the creative labs zen xtra, 30gb its within my budget (just) and offers good value per mb.

if you dont mind going for a bulkier mp3 player, amazon have the creative labs jukebox3 20gb with a free FM remote for £150 although its about the size of a portable CD player, however it does offer line in recording to mp3 and a few other features.

My Mini iPod is the bees knees. I'd really, really, recommend it.

Light, tiny, holds a good amount of music, and it's cool :D

Edit- It hasn't actually been officially released in Europe yet, although it should this year

Amazon are listing the ipod mini at £250, which isnt eaxactly cheap
Here if this the final price it seems like apple are ripping us off a bit, same as every other company then.

I remember when cassette walkmans were about £100 for a half decent one. In today's money, thats probably about £130-£150, so £250 still sounds like amazing value to me :)

I bought a 20gb ipod for the precise reason of storing all my mp3's when I go over to France (which is often).

Love it to bits.

you can buy a battery pack backup for the ipod from belkin = 22hs...if you are that far away from a power source then you are Robinson Crusoe

I took out the pcworld protection plan for my ipod. If the battery fails their policy (Swindon at least) is to replace the ipod. Now it cost 50 quid for the cover, but so does the battery if you buy it and then you have to replace it yourself. Also you get 12 months insurance for theft ansd also accidental damage cover for 3 years. To me a new ipod every 12 months or so doesnt sound too bad. And in 3 years there will be those new cube things they are talking about so who cares?

The muvo is okay i think for jogging but for serious car time you need one with at least 10GB.

Let me know what you think of the Creative Jukebox thingy, it didnt get a very good review (dunno why) in PC Format. What do they know ?

I think it loses some of the design features of the original.

They didnt like the screen I think for some reason.

That a bit screwed, seeing as it costs $250 (About £135).

I'd hope they don't charge anything more than £150 for it when it comes out here.

My Zen USB 2.0 (first model) is still living after nearly a year now. I may have to change the hd to 40-60 gigs soon as the 20 gigs is just about to be eaten up. Any old 2.5" drive will do, its just whether i destroy my 4 year gurantee i got with dixons for £35.

Ive heard of a price point of £199.99 and i dont think that includes VAT.
The zen xtras are even cheaper still on the US, the one im getting for £218 from amazon only costs £130 in the states, i know the exchange rate is favourable at the moment, but that has little effect on companys that sell electronics, there exchange rate always seems at $1=£1 regardless of any gloabl exchange rates.

As for swaping out the harddrive on the origanal Zen theres a guide on how to here:
