Who the fuck buys a console for FPS games when they already have a PC? That's kinda like buying a PC for beat em ups or football games.
The bottom line is Xbox is a festering disease-ridden box of gayness, without a single game I would inflict on a four year old portugese girl with leprosy. This is well demonstrated in worldwide sales figures, where its getting raped by both GC and PS2.
PS2 DVD playback is fine. I have zero lip-synching problems (I've heard saving a game with GT3 fixes it, but then I never noticed it in the first place so I can't comment), its played every single DVD I've thrown at it, Digital Noise is remarkably good for what is ostensibly a £100 DVD player and it is easily made multi-region.
Post-pub fun? That's a tie between GC and PS2 imo. Depends whether you'd rather play Pro Evolution Soccer and Tekken or some toss game with monkeys and Super Smash Brothers. Mrs Yuck probably wouldn't appreciate the size of the Xflop contoller either.
Xbox may seem like a good deal now, but you'll regret it in a year or two when the games releases start drying up a la DC. Thing is, DC actually had some decent games in the first place :/
