We're with BT Openworld and have had very mixed service.
When it works, it works fine, quick pings, high speed and no problems. However...... approximately every 2-3 weeks the damn thing crashes out. BT always blame the exchange/line/hardware and the system is down anywhere from 12 - 48 hours (usually over a weekend).
It's hard to recommend ANY ADSL service from a reliability point ov view as BT own and operate ALL ADSL lines (except a select few in central London) and don't appear to know their arse from their elbow.
If I had the option I'd go with a cable link like a shot. Friends who have it don't appear to have any problems, and with comparable speeds.
If forced to go down the ADSL path, I would now avoid Big Thief on general principles and go with ANY of their competitors, before continuing to fund a bunch of slack twats like BT.
