im with Tiscali. they have unbeleivably bad customer service, but the connection is extremely quick/reliable once its going. reason is because tiscali is a mainly italian company, just branching into britain, meaning hardly anyone is on it yet, so we get the best con possible. it rocks. whatever you do dont go with BTOW, Zen or anything like Neildrome or whatever its called, they're all uber over crowded.

NIldram Nildram Nildram....

oh and Nildram

Customer service is improving..insane speeds i had 80k/s+ on 512k b4 somehow :/. normally around 65k/s

They have a massive pipes and I get around 20-30 ping on CS, Battlefield 1942, ut2003 etc

hardly any lag on daoc..they are just the best and it never goes down...It has gone down twice for like 10 min in the 6 months I have had it and both times it was a BT sync error.

thats the one, nildram.. dotn know what they're like nower days, but when i was choosing my isp (about 5 months ago), nildram were having trouble because of the number of subscribers they had. everyone was getting bad pings etc (its more of a gaming isp). with tiscali, i got my line installed, but it took 6 weeks for them to actually connect me. thats 6 weeks of phoning them twice a day asking them why its still not working. they really are appauling when it comes to customer service, BUT the connection is worth it.

I'm with Pipex - do not EVER go with pipex ADSL.

1. They have no tech support (well they do, but you can never get through)
2. They are over subscribed and can't support the original user base
3. Sometimes the routing changes for no reason to some gaming servers so that your packets get routed to the USA - therefore, pings are at about 150ms (they blame level3 although this never happens to any other ISP)
4. Pipex deny there is anything wrong but by just looking at adslguide.org forum shows all pipex users are in the same boat
5. Oh, and the connection sporadicaly loses sync sometimes. When this happens, the connection can be down for hours. (they blame BT)
6. Their auth servers tend to fuckup from time to time meaning it rejects your username and passy. (they blame their wives)

Pipex are just shit :)

I'm with blueyonder.

Unreliable occasionally, but god damn it's like hot shit off a shovel. I get normal transfers of 75kb a sec when downloading, and pings of about 20ish on decent servers.

Tech support isn't bad either.

Blueyonder = Teh Bomb.

(Plus for I think £35 a month you get 1mb broadband :D )

But blueyonder is cable and he wants ASDL, so not really a good choice :)

Sounds very familiar - I could have written the same description of Pipex's dialup service around 5 years ago.

Dodgy service with no customer service worthy of the name then, and it sounds as if theyre the same way now.

on BT broadband here.. Typical speeds are 60 to 100kb/s
Only crashed once in about 9 months and was down for about 30 mins so not that bad..

Customer support is quite bad but not the worst ive ever had..

That sounds like the early days (read: first 2 years) of Casema in Holland. 2 years of ping 800+ on casema's own quake servers; other servers were inaccessible due to ping timeout . Then Wanadoo took over, and a year after it was slightly better. Still, I'd have to say no isp in existence can beat Casema/Wanadoo when it comes to bad service and bad performance.

Example:
"hmm my ping times out 90% of the times when pinging my own casema website"
-> call helpdesk
"Hello, I'm having terrible connection problems." followed by account details etc...
-> "Do you have netscape installed?"
"? I just open a dosbox and ping and see I time out most of the times, wondering if you know of some problem that is causing this... "
-> "Ping? Dosbox? We don't support Ping or Dosbox. We only support windows 95 and netscape."
"But that has nothing to do with..."
-> "One moment please"
-> 15 minutes of waiting, then line goes dead.
\o/ \o/ \o/ Repeat 3 x a week \o/ \o/ \o/

And wanadoo now works with GOA to serve DaoC in Holland, dunno if it does so in UK/FR/DE too.... I'm still surprised the servers are up more than 50% of the time really ( ;

BT's big advertising blitz means only 1 thing for you ADSL guys,
LAAAAG,
you can bet your bottom dollar that for 6 months they'll be behind their subscriber load by about 25%.

If you have it in your area and are thinking of it I can reccomend Blueyonder, 2 days LOS in 18 mnths, very good technical support, guys who actually know what your talking about even when you get technical, and a really good help page that even gives you advanced help on ping/routing issues.
They even have a techy newsletter sort of thing where the engineers spell out their progress and give very high level technical information on router/pipe/server-hardware/software.
A geeks paradise!

Recently downloaded 3 files combined dl rate exceeding 80kb!! and played DAOC at the same time flawlessly ,how cool is that!

No I don't work for them, in fact I work for..'cough'...er check top of message :)

I'm on Eclipse ADSL, runs fine, get about 50-60k/s normally and not much downtime. Pings are low, about 20-30 to goa.

BTOW LLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL. who said its good? come on, own up...... you cant hide forever! go onto adslguide.org or whatever it is and say that on the BTOW forum. you'll prolly be arrested.

BTOW is apparently worse than a 56k modem, since 56k is far more reliable and usually gives better pings lol. a friend of mine that had it had pings of 800-1000 on any server he tried, because bt SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. worst isp on the planet. kill them all.

but yea eclipse are good, average connection, very cheap, and very reliable with great customer service.

BT Openworld... Where to start. Good when it works (not outstanding), when it goes bad you'd better hope that rebooting your machine will fix it, otherwise you could be down for weeks.

I'm currently using a modem to connect to DAoC, my ADSL has been down for almost three weeks now. Apparantly there was a problem on the phone line the ADSL piggybacks on; due to this their standard procedure is to cease your ADSL account (so you avoid paying for it). Good idea in principle, except for the fact that:
a) While there was a problem on my PSTN line, it didn't affect my calls from it or my ADSL, and
b) It's taken them so long to reactivate my account, even after the phone line has been fixed.

Also a while back I got 5 static IP addresses (great because I could set up a web/FTP/mail server). They configured my router incorrectly though, as my connection page (which should only be accessible from inside the network) became visible to anyone on the web. While people couldn't change my login details, or see my password, by clicking on the 'Disconnect' button they could disconnect my ADSL for 10 seconds. Another two weeks before that was fixed.

In short, I'd recomment against BT Slowpenworld. Expensive compared to others available, and poor service.

Got BTopenworld at work, mostly works, but is not quick, doesnt handle streaming video hardly at all, when you have a problem, it takes them 48hours minimum to sort it out cos they always say they passed it on to engineers. The USB modem they gave me plays up every day.

At home we have it, but dont use it, cos the home modem, (green fish) crashes the pc whenever we use it, and the connection gives packet loss and crap pings on most games (havent used it for about 3 months, just waiting for contract to run out)

I would say BTopenworld is the worst ISP i have ever used.

lol karam talking out of his arse again.

I've had btopenworld adsl for 3 years to the month and i've always had pings of sub 40 on all fps servers, i ping excalibur with 42 average, i used to ping europa (uo server) with 14 - 22 - I download at 60k/sec - 70k/sec and its been down over the 3 years mabye 5 times and only once was it down over 2 hours.
Customer support also very helpful (shock) and i got free installation too (cuz i signed up early back 3 years ago).

All round very happy with btopenworld , karam obviously knows as much about adsl as he does about daoc or uo.

edit: I dont particularly like BT either but i've had no problems and no pktloss and no bad pings in my 3 year time on their adsl and nothing but helpful staff - beleive me if it was different i'd change providers - i take my internet connection performance very seriously.
