What has happened to the game industry? No one seems to take risks anymore, it is all generic crap.

It went down the road of the film industry - your shit needs financing - that means you need a project that's likely to pay off so you make generic x/y/z 5 and get paid a steady cheque from your publisher until they run out of patience and you run out of money and force you to put the game out and patch it later.
