That ofcourse doesn't mean that you should run after dogs in all situations, but i'd give credit to anyone who would try to save one in trouble.

tbh and imo naturally, I feel sorry for the dogs, but anyone failing to pay due attention to their pets when outdoors scores very low in the book of teedleratings. jack russells ffs, in heavy seas. I admire the rescue attempt, but none the less, low score.

in an aside: when I was in Australia, I watched a Swiss guy wade out in the Indian Ocean chest deep to photograph the sharks swimming by in the bay we were. If something had happened, I would have happily watched the fellow get fucked from the safety of the beach. Harsh? Maybe.

Going in after your dog is a bit silly because in 9 times out of ten the dog generally manages to survive in these stories but I have some sympathy for people who will risk their lives for their pets.

Letting your teenage kid risk her life = total insanity.

Walking your dogs off the lead on a storm wracked beach = clearly stupid.

Oh and the Sea's not actually that cold on the Southern coast of the UK (even in winter) thanks to our beloved gulf stream - its the storm that would have killed him.

well there isnt enough money to maintain the coastguard so it makes sense to close them and get the "community" more involved. I bet loads of people living on the coast have dinghys. And if locals get themselves drowned trying to rescue people, more houses on the market, lower prices.. its win-win

I love Jack Russells, people can be ok too but I prefer the dogs. Still very sad to see someone die trying to rescue an animal, it was brave but also silly, shame it didn't pay off for him.

I prefer to view it as a "don't let your pet get in a dangerous situation" notion. apparently the sea was rough.

Throdgrain has a dog. It's prolly been thawing in the UK as it has here in the NL. As far I as I can say I know the man, having never met him, but he'll be buggered twice before he lets his dog run out onto a lake with thawing ice on it. Because he cares about his pet and is a responsible person (in my minds eye I see him laugh now).

It's an rough analogy, comparing weak ice to a rough sea, but hey.

My dogs are always on a lead when I walk them, mainly because they are a massive pair of gormless spackers but also because I don't want them to run off. BUT if either were to get off their lead and run off into a giant deep puddle I would do everything in my power to save them.

I missed a KEA get together once because my dogs had run off and on my quest to find them I snapped the tendons in my ankle, I still walked for another hour looking for them after doing my ankle in.

I think your missing a significant part - he let his teenage daughter enter the sea in rough conditions to try n get the dogs - luckily she was pulled out alive.

one person trying to save a dog that puts multiple other ppl at risk is just stupid and the coast guard have issued a warning to say people shouldnt do it ..
