Okay, I wish people would stop lumping all the world religions beneath the umberella, "organsied religions"- it's only really Christianity and Islam, which was originally a derivitive of Christianity or something very similar, that cracks on about eternal damnation and worshipers of other religions being wrong and blasphemas, infidels (cool word).

Many other religions have total tolleration for others' beliefs and some even embrace them as part of human spirituality. You just don't hear about their followers, even though there are millions of them, as much because they're not total gobshites like the others.

Well, if you had proof positive the Devil existed, it would be a fair bet that God existed as well (although how you would differentiate 'The Devil' from a pan-dimensional alien superbeing that was pretending to be the Devil to fuck with you, I have no idea); however, even if this implausible event meant I suddenly believed in God, I still wouldn't worship him (it, whatever).

This is what does my head in about organised religion; the creator of the UNIVERSE, wants you to go to a building once a week and worship him? And he didn't leave clear instructions, so he allowed three major rival methods of diety worship to develop (along with a myriad of sub-variants), which contradict each other, so if you pick the wrong one you may be fucked for all eternity, and 90% of the time the version of the diety-worship-lottery you follow is entirely down to where you happen to have been born, so most of us are fucked right from the start. If the big fella exists and he set things up this way, he's one pretty twisted Omnipotent Being, and certainly not deserving of anyone's worship frankly.

I dont think I have ever prayed properly. Perhaps when I was a kid and taken to sunday school I did. But then it was kind of forced on to me.

Haven't managed to read this whole thread but someone pointed out that they couldnt believe in God and Pray to him because of the state of the world, all the bad stuff etc.

Taking this to the next level, if you so wish, upon studying the bible you will realise that at the moment God is not in charge of the world as such. To put things very simply Adam and Eve were perfect but were deceived by Satan and so they sinned and lost their perfection and standing before God. Satan challenged God suggesting Humans dont need God and only serve him because they would get something out of it (everlasting live on a paradise earth - explained in the bible). So in order to prove Satan was wrong he has left the earth to Man to see if he can rule himself and to see if people look to God for help still. I think its fairly obvious man can't rule himself. God wll soon step back in and sort things out.

So to sum up all the bad crap in the world is the actions of Satan and his influence on man.

As usual those who dont believe any of this feel free not to reply as i really dont care if you think im an idiot, im not forcing this on anyone or saying im right and you're wrong. Im just explaining some things as a lot of the time misunderstandings send people down the wrong road

To be honest, none of those things disprove God's existence at all. If God is indeed omniscient then things that seem unpleasant right now may well have just reasons for happening that we could never hope to understand.

Who's trying to disprove His existence ? I was just answering the point that bad things happening are no reason not to believe because man is the cause of all bad things. Plainly this is false. Lots of bad things happen that are nothing to do with sin.

Although I said the self-same thing just before you, I do have to note that if a person believes the literal truth of the Biblical account of creation, then it is probably not wise to point out geological or evolutionary inconistancies.
