Hey I'm thinking of selling my laptop since I can use my PC now (moved so I have more room etc) and I just wondered if there was any steps I should take before popping it in ebay. Obviously I have websites that sign me automatically etc, and I saw on Aada's " selling pc price" thread that Kryten said
snip - Don't worry about the hard drive data - run dban over it and there's very little worry.

so is there anything else I should do? I looked online abit and some people recommend a complete re-install of the OS, my laptop came with windows7 on it etc (dont have cd's) so would restoring to factory settings surfice?

any tips would be handy thanks.

use dban to wipe hdd it is very good wipe shit clean but as always nothing is ever totaly 100% so dont be suprised if some discovers yer pr0n habits, you can legaly down load a iso of win 7 from MS so use that to re-install if need be.

stuff to do before all that

check the following:-
all ports work inc vga and com ports etc
check dvd drive works and burns
check battery life- fully charge and actually use it till it runs outta juice and make not of the time
check hinges
dust the vents and fan holes- you hit them with a can of compressed aire or open it up and doit properly
give it a good wipe down
then take pics ove everything helps if some plonkers claims a port is broken, hingie is broken or screen is smashed etc

also mention if you are a chain smoker or not. i once 3 lappys to some i cleaned it throughly but forgot to mention the previous owner was a smoker (well i wasnt aware he was a smoker), i couldnt smell anything on the lappy but the buyer some how picked up a scent. ended up refunding the buyer to save me the hassle
