Tyribus ye Tyr ye Odin

The Hawick slogan 'Tyribus ye Tyr ye Odin' may be a corruption of their war cry, calling for the help of Thor and Odin to defeat their enemies.

The town's coat-of-arms bears the motto 'Per Mare Per Ecclesiam' which translates into 'By the Sea and By the Church', reflecting Southend's historic position between the Church at (Click link for more info and facts about Prittlewell) Prittlewell and the sea as in the (The longest river in England; flows eastward through London to the North Sea) Thames estuary.

"Maine - Where men are men... and women, too"

"Maine - Where men are men... and sheep are scared."

Maine's motto is "Dirigo" which means 'I lead' afaik.
Leading in what is the question, though. Sheep rape, I guess.

It's nice here, though. ;)

Brighton's motto from the coat of arms is

"INTER UNDAS ET COLLES FLOREMUS"
"between downs and sea we flourish"

and that IS one of the fantastic things about the place. Wherever you are, in 5 or 10 mins you can be either at the sea or high up on the south downs apparently in the middle of nowhere with views as far as you can see! :)

Newcastle: "Fortiter Defendit Triumphans" (Triumphing by a bold defence) Says it was awarded to Newcastle, after being besieged by the Scots for 3 months before finally falling, by Charles I in 1644. Pretty cool :)

I read that as "between clowns and sea we flourish." That would've been much better.

Bristol's motto is "Virtute et industria"

excellence/valour/manliness and industry/diligence

further prodding suggests it means "by [or from] valour and power and industry" (thank you random person that wrote in to some newspaper.)
