!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Read second post for cut down version for lazy peeps! :p
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, if people could do this it would be great for me to get a little understanding of whats going wrong for me.

For consitencys sake, lets use windows ping tool.

If your on XP, do Start > Run
Then type command, and hit enter
type in:
For Prydwen: ping 193.252.123.177 /n 100
For Excalibur: ping 193.252.123.33 /n 100
For Camlann: ping 193.252.123.147 /n 100
Hit enter.

Now this will take just under 2 minutes, try not to do anything, like download, play games or load pages during this time. If you do, it will effect the report, but since its a large sample it wont effect it too much.

When its done, post the report it generates at the end.
to do this, right click on the black screen and click Mark
Now drag over the text, and right click when you have it all covered, and just paste it into your reply. Should look something like this:

Ping statistics for 193.252.123.177:
Packets: Sent = 100, Received = 100, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 36ms, Maximum = 70ms, Average = 39ms

Ok, now looking at your average ping the part of the report thats in bold, reply to the poll, picking the option your ping is in, and wether your happy or not with your lets say "lag performance in RvR", if you dont get that last part ill explain it now by what i mean.

In rvr, despite my decent ping to the prydwen server, I will get "this target is too far away to attack" when chasing people alot, regardless if i manually follow or stick them. Now I know theres alot of exploits with things like this, but this isnt the only reason I get it, it happens when im chasing none exploiting players. Because of this, and my low ping I get the feeling its more to do with my system. For anyone who has played quake they might understand with the whole famous 125fps and 333fps. I think, that my system which isnt the best for daoc, seems to freeze while proccessing the attack cycle, and therefore im too far away from the target, but after the attack phase, interpolation means that I get dragged back to being right behind them and it looks like I never lagged or lost any distance from my target.

If thats confusing for you, dont worry just choose the option that says My ping is xx-xx and im happy, or im not happy. You choose your not happy if you find it dificult to attack people while chasing them, or experience other types of strange lag during RvR.

Thanks

[Edit] This is not an epeen thread, we dont care about your awesome ping! :p

well done in linux just now.. :p
but I'm mostly happy - whatever lag I might have is mostly caused by not enough ram in two of the three daoc-computers.

after useless ISP stopped routing the traffic through new york it's been ok.

Got very little ping-lag when playing - but the melee-lag (peeps warping abit upfront when u stick em with sprint and hit them breaking their mezz) is still here aswell.

In most cases the enemy aint sprinting directly so its 'okay' but its annoying in the end. Also truely hate the 'I stun you, you warp on for 3K units then pop back at the spot you where stunned originally, I didnt get the chain in and in the end just giving him free stun-immunity'

I had 4 weird spikes, 166, 150, 395 and 124.Excluding those, the average is more like 44. I get no lag whatsoever though.

Get quite abit lag, but its due to my harddrive being 40% odd fragmented, doesn't seem to want to go down no matter how many times I run defrag in windows. :(

http://www.oo-software.com has an awesome defragmentation tool, it can even run before windows loads so you can defrag your drive perfectly.

I have also the melee lagg, have had it ever since NF, never had it before EVER and ive mainly played melee since day 1.

just sticking an enemy player and trying to melee him doesnt work for me anymore, even if im sprinting. I have to manually run inside and abit ahead of my oponent, but still some seem to be able to stick to me when im playing support char and still allways land attacks on me when im spriting away from them.

they added artificial lagg or something to melee?

feels like im playing with cl_timenudge 150

Those are exactly the things that happen to me, so its obvious its nothing to do with pings, since you both have good pings and it still happens, and you both have decent systems also, since youve both recorded movies while playing.

I dont get this at all..

That's my ping, I am happy with the acctual ping similar to that of playing CSS on clan server but as mentioned by someone earlier in the thread, when meleeing in DAoC /stick sprint has that slightly too far away thing so have to move inside of them :/.

Having 4 downloads currently working and 1 ping on 64ms rest on either 52 or 53ms.

Have no lag whatsoever that can be directed to the internet.

Happens to me all the time too. I find sticking to them makes it guaranteed to happen so I rarely use stick to chase down enemies.

I'm basically getting the same thing you are. You chase after them, hit sprint, they hit sprint, too far away to attack spams up the screen. I also only started to get this since ... NF or ToA ...

I think a lot of the reasoning behind is that the ToA clients and above use a different method of calculating a person's /loc which also leads to the weird way people warp backwards and forwards whilst running.

Also affects stick more cos your client is responsbile for sticking not the server, like when you stick a lag ghost, so if someone warps back for moment your client slows you down as they appear to be closer, then they port away again so you're even further from their true loc

SI client is still the best one you can use for RvR (loc calc wise) and doesn't give the problems nearly as much. Try it. It's just a shame the graphics on the SI cli blow now :p

All in all it's a shed load of bad programming and nothing to do with your personal ping. Some people don't always get it, I don't always get it, I just get it when I'm trying to chase a caster who you know you can't stop chasing even if you want to cos the second you do he'll turn round and blow you to bits. :(

Think I win with the crapiest ISP on the planet, Etisalat :twak: .

Ping usually ranges between 160-190 mS but during peak hours that can easily double to 350-400 mS. For three weeks in August it was >1300 mS. But that was to due to an undersea cable that ruptured.

pretty much every ping returned 46ms except every 10 pings it would spike 72ms and in the one case where it returned 473ms. Live in Staffordshire w/ 2meg ADSL. I'm happy enough until someone strafes :p
