Rather than it just being a shite film? The article also mentions "Mars Needs Mom" losing over 100m dollars. Hollywood....stop making shite films that cost hundreds of millions to make and maybe you'd not have to blame your fall in profits on piracy!

A shit film is a shit film. They can't pin this one on piracy because nobody would've bothered to download it.

Going to see it with the missus either tonight or tomorrow night. It's (allegedly) sci-fi, so it's an automatic go-see for her. Looks like a Disney film to me ;)

But yep. Story is the hard thing to do - hence all the remakes. More importantly - it's also why most films are aimed at the younger age ranges - kids have so little experience of life their quality bar is so much lower.

As you get older, you're less liable to spend your wonga on obvious chod - so why aim for that market when you can flood the market with shit aimed at gullible young whippersnappers :)

As for piracy. Meh. Most of the shit available has only been around about a week and hardly anybody is bothering downloading that. But yeah, it'll be part of their argument...

The biggest problem isn't the film itself (people who've seen it seem to think its rather good), it was stupidly cutting the name from "John Carter of Mars", because of some dumbassed market research.

Not forgetting that they spent millions and millions on the film but practically nothing in marketing/awareness.

Every time I saw it I was like... what the fuck is this and why do I care. Every single film I've seen of late had a trailer for it and it just got to the point that every time it popped up I was like "not this shit again". So frankly any interest I may have had was overshadowed by it being in my face all the time.

Unfortunately I have to be extremely careful with my movie passouts at the moment, (I'm keeping my powder dry for the Avengers and Batman) otherwise I'd probably have gone to see this; looks like my kind of thing.

I think its just become a trend for the music/film industry to automatically blame any losses on Piracy tbh, alot of big egos out there that just cant take the criticism that their film or song was shit... so fucking what if you won a cunting oscar or pissy arse music award? it doesnt mean just because you've won awards that everything you make from then on will be good.

100 million dollars, for the love of god, 100 millon dollars and they might as well have released a press release saying the director hates puppies for the same level of interest.
Marketers..second against the wall when the revolution comes.

They should stop converting 2D films in to 3D post filming so they can jump on the 3D bandwagon.
Don't know what it costs to turn a 2D in to 3D but that might have limited their losses....
All the movies that I have seen that were 2D turned in to 3D afterwards had bad picture quality in the cinema.
We can't even pick the version anymore at our local cinema. If it's 3D, even the fake 3D kind they only show the 3D version.
I check http://realorfake3d.com/ now and if it's fake 3D I'll wait for the blu-ray release.

The Titans films look like they should be good but they're 3D and undoubtedly shit.

Which is a shame, we could really do with a big budget brilliant series of Greek mythology.

Its not Greek mythology though; they've completely fucked around with the stories. Wrath of The Titans is just an action movie with a random selection of Greek heroes and Gods thrown at it (and I know Clash of The Titans; original and remake, took huge liberties, Krakens aren't even Greek ffs; but this latest one is even more off beam). I don't think anyone has done a "proper" Greek Mythology movie. Troy is probably the nearest, Jason and The Argonauts most fun (and at least the plot was right even if the detail wasn't). Of course the best movie based on Greek mythology is Oh Brother Where Art Thou? Which manages to tell a better Greek mythology story than Clash of The Titans despite being chronologically out by about 3000 years.

they are releasing titanic 3D i am getting pressured to go see it i must be strong and hold firm and go no fucking way. 3D is a joke of a technology it makes your eyes bleed after 30 mins as said they should invest in better technology as said super high def for wall size resolutions or holographic tech

Really? Nice money grab there. Hmmm, hold on ... but .... you'll get to see 3D breasts. They are the future I hear.

Odd thing is I find most 3D movies in the cinema blurry and sometimes hard to follow the action, but at home on my tv it's actually pretty decent.

3D can be good, you need to watch original Imax 3D, like Ghosts of the abyss, sit at the front at a proper full size Imax screen and that's as close as you can get to full immersion, after ten minutes your brain gives up and accepts you are actually there.

I personally have a thing for Kate Winslet so I like that scene.
Disney *can* make okay scifi films. The Black Hole, Tron and Flight Of The Navigator were at least watchable. Most of it is utter crap though...

It has to be an exceptional film for me to make the effort to go to the cinema. The vast majority just aren't good enough, and I'll wait until they come out on Sky Movies. I've watched Hanna and Fast Five in the last couple of weeks. Hanna is the only one that I made a point of watching again because it has a very un-Hollywood ending and a couple of hanging questions.

Yeah, they'll probably blame the failure of John Carter on piracy. The fact that it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck and walks like a duck means it's utter shit.

Troy was such a travesty to The Iliad :/ The characters became Hollywood cliches :(

I watched it thought it was ok, typical chewing gum for the brain plus the main female character was hit as fuck and her abs made me cry :p

Quite liked it. Bird loved it. Enjoyable throwaway entertainment.

Was miffed at the price tho. 3D films (even the fake ones) used to cost the same as normal films plus an extra 3 quid for the glasses. Sensible people saved their glasses so now they've put the cost of the 3D film up by two quid and they flog the glasses for a pound.

Despite being deliberately 20 minutes late I still had to sit through a fuckload of adverts, including the one that calls me a nasty pirate who watches "bad picture and sound quality" movies. WTF, I just gave you 20 quid and volunteered to sit about whilst you feed me adverts I don't want to see - say "thanks" and leave it at that

Makes me want to stay at home and download them tbfh :)

cheers brah. don't have to see the movie now, and sorry, Kate does nothing for me so that's a double not-having-seen-it plus imo :)
