Its earning money... maybe not as much as WoW, but I think EA see DAOC can move all its sub's to WAR and increase on current sub's. Check some of the WAR forums, even if half of them sign up to WAR - its going to make a lot of money.
DAOC is pretty much developed and needs little maintenance, so WAR can be developed with current resources... they would be stupid to kill DAOC (I mean look at EQ)

EA have stated that they are committed to continuing support for DAoC. It is still a popular game with a strong community. While it's making money they'd be mad to close it down.
I was talking to some Mythic guys at the weekend when we were at Games Day and they confirmed that the DAoC project will continue after WAR is released, there will still be a development team dedicated to DAoC. As long as people keep playing it, EA-Mythic will support it.

What going to happen is Requiel and Xalin will be securing jobs in Warhammer so that they infact have a job in a year ;)

I give it a year after Warhammer is released and EA will be pushing to get those exisiting DAoC players to move over to Warhammer. Frankly if the DAoC population takes a sizeable hit when Warhammer goes retail and I expect just that to happen then the game will hardly be worth playing anyway on such lowly popluated servers.

I also can't see EA allowing Mythic to run the game at a loss or even a small profit when the manpower could be better used supporting Warhammer which is going to be EA's new cashcow. What I could also see happening is EA forcing Mythic to release a FINAL version of the game with no future expansions and then allowing it to be run with a minimal support staff, that way it could still turn a decent profit for some time into the future as the overheads would be very small.

i just hope that EA wants to make more money off daoc subs.... they have loads of money... so they shoul use a bit of it to advertise the game :D id love to see more new players come....

If they advertise, DAoC could get lots of new players (Hell, I'd be surprised if unclustering wasn't needed if they relaunched in the UK).

If they don't, it'll slowly die, with a big hit when WAR arrives.

WAR screenshots

Are the pics on the screenshots section of the warhammeronline.com site actual in-game shots ?

If so, looks very WOW like.

I was kinda expecting something looking like DAOC...

Looks great.

i doubt it, WAR is a completely different "ruleset" to daoc so alot of people are likely to come back. Imo anyway

EA have the Tech Heads to help Mythic if ever needed, also they have the marketing skills...and power to Advertise WAR to the masses.

oh and about £50000000000000000000

OK. Eek ! Well, they BOTH look kinda similar to me. Don't know which came first - the chicken or the egg - but having played Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay as a teenager, WAR definitely appeals to me. If I get a new PC next year, I'll definitely play it.

Personally I think DAOC is already on the decline, no amount of marketing will save it when people are already into WoW and with WAR around the corner - people are not going to flood to a 5yr old game with a very established player base when they can go to WAR and start from scratch with other in the same boat, and if WAR offers similar RvR with better gfx, interfaces etc then why would people come to DAOC just because its in a magazine??? Lets be honest they are going to market WAR a lot more than DAOC - maks more sense to get everyone over to WAR so they can drop DAOC and plough all the funding/marketing/technology etc into one game as opposed to having 2 drains on resource...

DAOC is teh doomed I tell thee! Soon as WAR opens up I am there and DAOC is teh cancelled for moi.

I agree. Provided they don't introduce any Toa arti / ML slog crap / total nightmare of having to create an impossibly uber fully capped RVR template in order to just play the end-game, I'll be there :)

Since i can't speculate the effects of huge buys like this, anything can happen really (legally too)...i'll throw this in.

What i don't understand about EA is the severe hatred towards them. Sure they release sports games every year with the slapped on players and added +1, which incidently sell alot, but the games they've brought us are huge.

BAttlefield, need for speed series etc...when you look at it, EA ain't that bad.

Its the typical thing of knocking people/companies who have success of some sort. EA have gone overboard with the old +1's but I agree - some of the stuff they have done is class - maybe its more a case of by flooding the market every year with +1's it does leave some people/parents etc with less cash to splurge on more independant or original games when they just have to have the +1's as well... So EA are evil I just realised as they kill independants.... Wait they are good because Battlefield rocks...wait they are bad because they made Battlefield 2 (+1) which...erm ...actually rocked more ...and now they are going to make that Battlefied 2042 or something - yet another +1 game....and it looks like its even more rox0ring ...dammit EA you are good yet bad, saintly yet a slapper, fit yet a munter.....

ngnrrghgghhhh

~eats keyboard as a sign of brain crumbling under the weight of EA good/bad thoughts~
