Ok i just wanna know ''Champs'' point of view on LW or S/S.

We all know yes LW hits hard but dose that make up for slam/blocking and then speccing Master of block in RA.

Cus the only people i have heard say LW is best is one's who use it - and then S/S users say thats the best.

So i really wanna know for when respec come's :)

Cheers cya

doesnt it all come down to spec points?

champs get 2X each lvl

if you are going ss then go a hero

if you are going a champ then max valour, it what makes a champ a champ. so then you have spec points left over, if you go ss then thats spec heavy and really wont give you what you need to solo, go full valour then lw then parry in my humble opinion

but then again..what do i know? (nothing btw..nothing at all)

I've been asking myself the same question. I'm a s/s champ and was always going to respec to LW when the patch comes through. Since hitting level 50 however I've been having second thoughts. I'm not into zerging at all and will often go on 'patrols' with my GM's bard and quite frankly with his mezz and my slam we make short work of a lot of invaders very quickly. Cyrax I think you've been with us when we've done this. The question I'd like an answer for is, is the level 50 LW back stun style as rocking as the anytime shield slam ?

I've still not decided what I want to do......argh! If only we got 2 respecs!

Having 39 in blades doesn't give you uber damage but in a group situation, you have to love the guy with slam.

Bard mezzes - slammer slams - everyone whacks the slammed - rinse repeat.

1v1 well not too sure on this one as it doesn't happen that often but I've done a lot better than I thought I would as I get more blocks in than I would have thought - soloed a yellow con paladin (ok they suck) he didn't hit me once and all I lost was end and power. As for s/s champs being gimped I think this is not true - you may not be able to deliver the uber damage (this can be helped with a good player crafted bastard sword) but you have far more versatility than a hero who are the best meleers and that's about it, they can't snare or blast or even debuff(good against people with buffbots - mentioning no names).

But like I say I haven't made my mind up I quite like the idea of:
@You hit <insertname here> for 400 damage@
The decision you need to make is do you want to be group orientated in rvr or a major damage dealer ?

Speccing a Champion is a very hard choice, mate. But since we finally get the respec-things with the next patch, it will get a little bit easier.

I have been a S&S-Elfchamp since I started. I think S&S-Champs are more welcome in PvE-groups than those who specced LW only (nothing beats a blocked hit at the right time).
But when it comes to RvR, that "tactic" doesn't apply any more (or not in these ways). I think (and sue me for that if you want) RvR is mainly about dealing the most damage in the shortest amount of time possible. Since Champs also get the Str/Con-buff in the next patch, our effiency (and damage) with Large Weapons will be incresed.

So yes..I am S&S-Champ but I am definately respeccing into LW's. Anyway...if you are unsure about what to do..maybe use the time the testserver is up and see how good your respec is.

Well my Champ is split spec in both wep types (only took valour to 30)..
S/S very nice for PvE and RvR i just slam then whip out the LW.

Thinking about going 50LW 40Valour 42Parry in the respecc,, but unsure of the 50LW style and the new RA`s effects on duration of stuns etc

I have spoke to a few s/s champs and all have done same --

Sword 39/ Shield 42 / Valor 50

now if u add items and Realm Rank to that plus some master of block.

A nice speedy sword (no big LW 5.0spd :p) like 2,8 /3,2

Wouldnt u deal out same damage as u would get 2 hits to one LW - but have the advantage to block and slam??

In our guild (and Cyrax is in it :) ) we have a mix of the S/S and LW champs (me being LW champ).

My parry is highish at 27 with +11 from items and an effective +6 from MoParrying RA. Not being an expert in 1h sword styles but reading in Hall of Valour, I notice that none have a parry react style so high parry has a basically defensive role rather than a pre-requisite for a style.

You need to be behind your target for Annihilation (level 50 LW style) whereas the shield slam is anywhere. people have said it is only good for AFK albs but it is especially good when they run from you (like clerics tend to do with me)

Advantages of shield are no positional moving to get the sweet spot.

Disadvantage is that apart from the 9s stun, the damage is blunt whereas i can vary mine to slash damage.

Does annihilation work? Probably not as effectively as slam due to the positional requirement. However it is a high bonus to hit and high damage attack so apart from anything else the damage output alone is very good. Apart from RvR i have used it sucessfully in PvE most notably on the grand chancellor in DF whilst the taunt group is at the front.

With BT on mages I do sometimes wish for a second quick attack as the first one is invariably blocked by the BT. However, I could whip out my 4.5 speed sword for that to help.

I have noticed that a few times in RvR i have hit 500+ damage with it on yellow con invaders.

Interestingly, in the top 10 champ list on hib there is a mix. Cuthervaen uses LW as does me and Lofff but others are S/S. Also interestingly, all the level 50 elf champs, apart from yours truly, use S/S or Piercer/shield but having spoken to both Joxer (as his post says) and Demerzel recently and both want to respec to LW. Dinga, a luri champ uses LW but Fest, another level 50 luri champ uses shield.

At the end of the day it is how you want to play. There are advantages to being LW (two types of weapon damage, large amount of damage when you hit, looking cool with a big sledgehammer) but disadvantages like being more prone to arrows and bolts, a miss can be life or death, etc. I have always wanted to use LW so that is for me.

However, no matter what you go for you have the same number of spec points. Speccing to 42 shield for the slam and 50 valour (a champ's defining stat or else you are just a gimped hero) means sacrificing damage output. LW means you can go 50LW +50 valour and have a reasonable defence with parry with the advantage of maximum damage output and variation in damage type.

My final stats are 50(+6 minumum +12 max depending on sword or items) LW, 50+13 valour, 27+11 parry with shield and blunts at 7.

Speccing in a a weapon does increase its value slightly (i have noticed 2 damage per level of train with realm ranks) but not sure if two hits from a fast sword = 1 hit with an LW.

I think there have been a few albs and mids who see an elf from afar, think caster, see a nutter in scale wielding a 16.5 dps sledgehammer and wished they had not. Best laugh was me dancing with a cleric when suiciding before two hitting him whilst his mates frantically tried to kill me. I personally do not think I could have done that with a 1h sword.
