Faffed about being a general computer nerd - not particularly special.
Was very flatulent however, and gave a German teacher a hard time - she wasn't particularly stern or disciplinarian and the class knew it. Especially when I stood up in the middle of her class, cocked up my right leg and farted loud enough for the class next door to hear. She was speechless. The class was then unteachable.

back to schools: I fucking wish I'd gone to a grammar school. I know a few people who have and they are all without fail at better universities than me and did better at all the academic stuff they did. I am just as clever as these people (according to our parents, who are all friends from many moons ago) but because I went to [random secondary school] there were fuck all resources and fuck all teachers who actually wanted to teach because they were too busy doing up their stab vests and supervising detentions.
Grammar school dont have nearly as much of that kind of hassle so the teachers can actually teach without little wankers who's parents dont give a fuck ruining it for everyone.

I agree neither system is perfect, and something else needs to happen. IMHO schools aint really the problem, it's the parents, my parents were both academics and well paid programmers so I got all the nice things when I were growing up, went on all the school trips, etc etc and got taught how to name hydrocarbons when I was 10 by my step dad!

Obviously I was lucky with my lot in life and I completely recognise that it's not the fault of the child who gets born into an awful home to then become a under achieving tosser (which happens all to often).

Seriously, ditto. This has been something I will likely remain pissed off about for the remainder of my life. The difference with me was that my parents, while being intelligent (though possibly not academic as such - my father gained most of his expertise in electronics on his own), weren't well paid at all. And on top of that I suffered with an undiagnosed condition throughout my stay at secondary school, meaning I could barely ever attend anyhow.

So, I was the perpetually sick kid who was hardly ever there, still got straight As but dropped out altogether before A-levels due to a combination of the above.

if someone gets born into a culture of not caring, being lazy, disrespecting authority and generally being a cock, then they will be a cock. Look outside, the proof is walking around all day. possibly also look in the mirror.

The reason I am moderately intelligent is certainly to do with my genes, but I'd say mostly to do with my parents actually teaching me stuff and not just ignoring me. If parents don't encourage their kids to BE something and DO something, they wont, unless someone else encourages them to.

It is the theory of culture, what you get born into is "normal".

Did as little work as I could get away with, while maintaining higher than average results. Not very sporty, but took part in a lot of events for my House, and got the half colours and full colours* as soon as they were awarded. I would have been House prefect has I not got kicked out of school. School chess captain, though not a total nerd, played table tennis, badminton, five-a-side, and cricket for the house. Won some Young Enterprise award with one of the school's companies. Never bullied, never had any fights.

Unconsciously, I act totally different when I'm at work, school and even internets than when I'm at home. But I'm pretty much what you see is what you get. You hate me or you don't.
