on face book one of my mates just answered one of those shit poles for this question

1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-1+1+1+1+1+1+1x0 =? with 14.


.....


now my issues are

1. it's clearly 0
2. it would be 15 anyway without the x 0
3. 564k people answered 0, the next highest with 468k was 14
4. IT WOULD BE 15 WITHOUT THE X 0



i want to cry

It's 15 without the 0, there's a minus in the middle which is kinda easy to glance over.

Well yeah, the x0 kinda ruins it, but it would be 15 without it. The minus is really fun :p

though since you're on face-f*cking-book, you fail already at the competition of "what's the world coming to" ;)

It depends on how you calculate it....if you added brackets you could end up with 0...

I thought you did multiplications and divisions first in the order of calculation. In which case the answer is 14

BODMAS = Brackets, Order, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction

Multiplication takes priority over addition/subtraction.
There are no brackets, exponents or division. The multiplication only operates on the last 1.

1x0=0
10 1's added, 1 subtracted, 5 added, 0 added = 14

And yes, the real answer is 14 because there's no brackets.

edit again: I wish Swedish had cool mnemonics, but either I wasn't taught any or they don't exist :(

if you still arent convinced put it into excel

You're putting the brackets wrong, to get the 0 you're after you'd need to do it like this:

(1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-1+1+1+1+1+1+1)x0

just did it on calculator and it said 0 :< calculator has no brackets

tho on my HTC calculator is comes up with 14, but on my other phone it's 0



EVEN THE PHONES CAN'T AGREE!!!!!!

You have to do it in this order:

1x0+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-1+1+1+1+1+1

BODMAS dictates you have to do it in that order.

If you go by bodmas, surely the stages would go;

1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-1+1+1+1+1+1+1x0
1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-1+1+1+1+1+1+0
10 - 6 = 4

No?

nah subtraction is last it would make it

1x0+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1-1 =14


but i don't see why u don't jsut put it like that to begin with
