i got home from jogging about 10 mins ago and i was stood outside checking the moon out etc.
an orange ball appeared above me in the sky, bright enough to have a glow aorund it. and in the distance i could see a red dot which i thought was mars. this orange blob flew pretty much in that direction as far as i coudl tell.
my dad thought it was a hotair balloon but it was too fast.
couple minutes later another one appeared from the same area and went in the same direction.
from appearing to vanishing in the distance it ook about 60 seconds.

so as soon as i got in i asked my friend on msn if hed seen anything. he said no, but its on youtube!

lo and behold, its on youtube already

YouTube - UFO middlesbrough 12/10/08

when i seen it the blobs were far brighter, more orange and moving away from my location.

im not saying there is aliens or anything!

Seen plenty of "ufo"s in my time, stars that move way too fast to be planes(considering the size) and not slow enough to be satellites, stars going in perfect square shapes etc.

But that's just cool :p

And if tris- is posting it, hell, that's some cerial stuff and not some conspiracy nut :D

There is so much crap put into the air nowdays you can pretty much discount any "lights in the sky" as any but a UFO.

I'd go for Chinese Sky Lanterns, a common theme at weddings, etc.

does that fit with the footage up at the top of the thread? ive never seen one before.

they seemed about half as bright as the moon and pretty high up.

ill throw this into the works then.
the guy with that video lives in eston hills which is about 15-20 miles from me.

also, what kind of light source is in these sky lanterns? if its a basic tea candle type thing, would it be half as bright as the moon was?

Its a chinese sky lantern and though I seem to be just following the pack I had already made my mind up before I read that far :)

For some reason we get em quite a lot around here and not just on some chinese holiday so recognising them is becoming 2nd nature.

Edit: Cracking arent they - might buy some myself for Guy Fawkes night :)

normally theyre like big paper things with a flame in the middle. i guess at some point hte paper gets set alight so it could be quite bright!!
