For me..

Went over to the states with my parents in 1987, and got a vinyl album by some band called "guns and roses" Being only 16 at the time and just getting into music, this was just amazing.

For a while at least, it felt "special"..this was my little band Then it all happened, and they were everyones

Jan 90' going on a wv bettle rally to something called a "rave" ofc with my total "i am a rocker" stance with guns and roses and led zeppelin being my gods, i sneered at the prospect of going to this "rave".

2 white doves and 6 hours later, my life had changed. unfuckinbelieveably good was had. more or less stopped going to rock clubs over night, floppy hat, loose fit clothes : in skin tight leather troosers & snake skin cowboy boots : out !! Was only 2 clubs in the merseyside area actually playing "rave" music, Quadrant Park & The State. Dodgy as fuck gettin sorted half the time, but hey

Used to have pirate radio station which even got a mention on Radio 1 once.. Then another larger pirate station started broadcasting on our frequency to steal our listeners - we couldnt compete financially and that station is now an actual real official station... curse them and their evul cash ways And I wont say which as I refuses to listen/speak about them and their stinky sneaky plans...

Well that and the DTI were on the hunt for us we think - some dodgy vans roving around the area and a chopper once circling around where we used to broadcast from - and being live with vinyl etc we couldnt afford to lose the turntables or tunes so we gave up teh fight and shit it down...and went and got hammered instead

Got loads of vinyl from groups like Faithless etc before they made it - got the original version of Insomnia somewhere along with a tonne of other stuff which I never use now but can't bear to sell..... (my missus I think wants me to so she can go buy a new pair of shoes - diamond studded that hover as well or something no doubt )

Underworld first live performance in a small tent at Reading 95. Went to see the Stone Roses who were appaling (turn'ed out to be their last ever live set) so headed off to go see Underworld were people were litterly climbing up the tent poles to see em.

For me its kinda the reverse of what Zede did, was into realy rave music at school 89-94 (on pirate radio station don FM .. always remember the classic Long Dark Tunnel). At collage turned to Indie/Mod music down the sadly departed WAg club in Wardour street London (best club in town at the time). After that all died out went back to Hard Trance at Escape to Samsara at the Fridge Brixton (and barely escaped with my mind intact). While dripping abit into Hip Hop Breaks of the Del La Soul and Jurrassic 5 variety, rather than 50 cent kinda stuff.

its not to be cool, its just more fun when u watch a small band u see in a small bar/club grow to become a huge success...

small venues/raves are the most fun things just for the attitude of everyone there

Hehe, I was the same. I didn't go to the US to get the album but I bought it in the UK before they became really famous.

One I always regret was missing up the chance to go see The League Of Gentlemen filming their first series. I can remember our work got sent a load of free tickets to be in the studio audience but no one went because no one knew who they were. All we knew was the title of the show, the not so famous people in it, and it was being filmed at the Yorkshire TV studios (BBC show I know, but filmed in ITV studios). It sounded crap so no one went. I watched the 1st episode out of curiosity and pissed myself laughing it was so funny. Shame I missed going to see it for free.

Flash. That website thing you all hate so much. I started using it around the beta of flash 3 and was earning a (pretty decent) living with by the time 4 came out .. I was on newsgroups and websites explaining other people how it worked and wrote a million tutorials and hosted training courses etc.

I still get emails sometimes from people asking me how to do stuff even though I haven't worked with Flash for about 3 years now other then to do little things for friends.

I made a couple of flash games waaaaay before anyone thought it could be used to make games with and I embedded streaming video in it for a games review website years before youtube etc started using it as their way to deliver streaming movies.

I have a couple of friends who were with me in the beginning and most are stinking rich now... either from landing really big website deals before the internet bubble burst and others from writing programs that complimented/worked with Flash. Of course I don't have a cent to show for it

Have always been, and probably will always be a metal/rock/indie fan. Must admit i'm liking my Ska-Punk currently though...
