I'm just putting the finishing touches to my extended history assignment now, arranging all the sources and additional material, checking and double checking the wording and lay out and I have to say it really is so satisfying to look at all this work that I've put so much effort in over the last few weeks and I can't wait to see it all bound together.

Its about Jack the Ripper and what influences he has had over society and also why he is so popular, theres none of the speculation over who he was or any conspiracy theories just looking at ways in which a series of ghastly events by an unknown person over one hundred years ago changed the world.

it was loads of fun and I really enjoyed it, also I have done my extended English assignment, looking at the ways Shakespeare influenced Star Trek and if it did either any good and I loved writing that too, two subjects I really like but that are totally different and I got to merge them, great stuff!

What projects (be it a DIY home project, uni/college essay or something for your own interest) have you done that your really proud of?

At school we had to do a project in geography on any country. Our geography teacher used to keep childrens projects from years gone by in her storeroom. I nicked one from there and put my name on it. Needless to say I chose the best looking one and I got an A for all my troubles. I was really proud of that project!

I once in 8th grade wrote a paper about how I understood and intrepreted a book that the entire class had read during a month or so, called "My Friend Thomas", I analysed it the best I could, but ended up 1 entire page short of the required, so I started changing sentences throughout the project with synonyms and make it sounds more intellectual, and got the extra page and turned it in...

The Result? My Teacher refused to belive I had done it myself, saying that the language used in the paper was off atleast college degree and nobody at 8th grade was able to write so well... Until I accepted sitting an hour after class and writing a paper about "cheating" and did the same thing there, and she could see I was able to use such words..

Was given an apology infront of the entire class the next day and 13 as grade (A+) for it

Suppose my entier set of last years work I'm proud of, joined the college and landed "Student of The Year" in I.T, out of around 300 people.

Suppose I'm to be proud of that.

Not in Denmark.. 9th grade is and then you can what the fuck you want really, but if you want a proper job you need high school/college(dunno which one it is tbh) and then on to Uni, but I am not doing that! :D

Gonna be export engineer I think, which will be my new project to be proud of, but first I am off to Australia and Hong Kong for 5-6months xD

I have this essay I did last year about how microorganisms produce things like antibiotics, antifunals, immune supressors and so forth. was on a molecular level so genes and proteins and all sorts of intricate ways the organism decides 'should I make this antibiotic'? It was just a literature review but I put alot into it and it was interesting (to me, I can hear everyone groaning pffff). Got a good mark for it but it was the first time I realy enjoyed doing an essay (and only currently, god I hate them with a passion).

Actually High School is required in Denmark, it is just part of "Folkeskolen" so most doesn't know :)

About being binned for being a nerd... not really, wasn't like I used all my time doing it, usually just handed in something to pass, only did such once and only because I missed that 1 page to meet the requirement.

You don't really have to be a nerd to make sentences more advanced.

"It is not a requirement that you're a person of more than normal advancements and focus in certain areas of your knowledge capacities to contructs fractures of communications seem to be made by a higher level of communication skill than you actually possess in general." <-- That sort of thing I did on my paper, nerd at work? Not really, just to lasy to find something else in the book beside what I had written already :)

rofl that sounds exactly like my english lit essays in reverse, tbh you can say everything you need to say eloquently in say 200 words for example but...but they dont want that they want a load of purple prose and pious waffle so what you could have summed up nicely and precicely in 2 pges has to be drawn out over 4 or 5 using such up its own bottom phrases that they make me cringe when i write them lol.

tis why i prefer history tbh because if you waffle in that the tutor gives you the birch lol

Opposite for me.

I can easily produce 4,000+ words on a 1,000 word essay - I just have too much to say :(

I think everyone has that issues, atleast with essays. It's easy to go WAY above, but getting the final words in at 1000 is tricky, as it's hard to end.

not really done it yet bet i'm going to ecuador for three weeks in 2008 on a community aid project. We're gonna be going to Quito and helping out with schools and such and somehow getting child prostitutes off the street, im sure all will be explained about that one.

It's going to be such an experience. I cannot wait.

During my GCSE year I got in the top 5 of the country for history (not actually sure where I came they just said top 5).

In a-level my first year I let meself down in history and only got a B and I said to the teacher's next year il get an A on my coursework ect. So in A2 year I did a 20,000 word essey (minimum was 2000) on the rise and fall of Shaka Zulu in which I got my A (First person to ever get an A in history at my college in there chosen historical area of coursework) and was offered to go to South Africa to study the Zulu culture in which was a fun experience; and also I have played various parts in the writings of 'African history college books'. Kind of proud I gues:p

I'm proud of a couple of things. Giving my first academic paper at a conference (admittedly due to my short academic career i only wrote a couple of papers) and subsequently seeing it cited by proper academics :)

In my work life i'm actually quite proud of the work i did for my last company VMS as all system architecture, build, specs and software releases were my work. It's just a shame that i never got to fly out and see it working in stores before i left.

Way to overwork yourself, if you was good at English, you could get your key points on your piece down to fit into 1,000 words, or whatever is required :)

haha, I quite wondered how we were gonna help with that one. Seeing as I'm quite happy at the moment being disease free.

I think the A* in my English exam taken a year early shows I can compress words into time thanks ^^.

you do know it is based on a standerdised score, so you coulda done crap, but if everyone else did crap then the mark boundaries would lower.

Yes?

If someone sets a really hard maths paper and the brightest kid only achieve 60% but gets an A*, that doesn't mean his not good at the subject - it just means the test paper was really hard and the grade boundaries compensated for that.
