I'm after some advise on what graphics card I should go for, being in the 150 - 170 range, something that can cope with catacombs in 1280x1024 with most settings on. I've been looking at the 6600GT and the 9700 Radeons, but I'm not too sure which one togo for? I have a 3.2HT Cpu, so I'm thinking a Radeon instead? Its commonly believed that Nvida/AMD and Intel/Radeon? As I said I'm not too sure, just after a little presuation in my decisions. Ta.

Geforce 6600GT is far ahead of the radeon 9700 pro, however if you can manage to pay around £180 you should be able to pick yourself up a brand new 6800 non ultra which is one of the best valued gfx cards of the past five years.(make sure it's not a LE version though as they only have 8 pipelines, you want the normal non ultras with 12 pipelines at default)

I've not used a 6600GT but I'm willing to take Eggy's word that it's good enough :) Just wanted to say that I'm running a vanilla 128MB 6800 (MSI iirc) and I get great performance from that with my crappy P4 2.8GHz +1GB RAM.

I'm not a huge fan of ATI cards right now, NVIDIA definitely winning the price/performance fight recently.

Right at the bottom of this page;

http://www.scan.co.uk/todayonly/

has Gigabyte 128MB 6600GT for £132 and 128MB 6800 for £173. Offers on that page change daily, but you can probably get those prices if you shop around.

Ebuyer was the cheapest last week.

Don't worry about the manufacturer, they're all the same shit, just different Taiwanese badge factory.

I've been looking at the Gainward 6600GT, doesnt look much but in reviews its done really well, if it can do 1280, with atlantis trees/textures then I think I'll go for that one. Also, would getting a new HDD help? I've been looking at the barracuda HDD SATA 8mb cache drives, they look nice :> Thanks for help so far anyways :x

HDD will make next to no difference. DAoC is supremely memory hungry so the biggest improvment is more/better ram.

I currently run an ATI 9800 xt pro, a 3.2 p4 and 1gig of pc4200 ram. Game runs brill on high res with everything set to max. For DAoC you need at least 512 mb ram but 1gig is optimal imho.

Aye, I've got 1GB of CAS2 DDR, so if HDD don't affect it then I'll leave it be and just go with the 6600gt. Thanks for help.
