What Laptop?

I have been asked for a recommendation for a laptop. It is for an inexperienced user who has very low requirements in terms of capabilities. Internet and a little light word processing pretty much covers it.

It will not travel far and so a largish screen would be better and a core duo chip, 2Mb RAM and 160GB HDD would be about the mark.

Does anyone have any recommendations? I would be able to help with low level problems but wouldn't want anything fundementaly unreliable as it would have to be returned which is hassle best avoided.

I recently got my mum a budget HP-Compaq with a 17" screen. It wasn't the most feature rich but it worked out to 500eur, or 375 squids, two gigs ram and a C2D cpu.
