What is wrong with DirectSound?

Someone tell me why any games that use DirectSound end up being screwed with crackling noises. It isnt my speakers and I have upgraded to the latest drivers. It means that I cant play Blue Shift properly. DAMN!

I have a Creative PCI 64V card with the latest drivers.

go here C:\Program Files\DirectX\Setup or where-ever it is on your hard drive, open DXdiag.exe, goto the sound tab, you can test the direct sound and also change the acceleration rate which can help with incompatibilites.

I tried all the different acceleration settings but it hasnt made any difference. Any other ideas?

Do you have a VIA chipset on your motherboard? If so go Here and get the latest final 4 in 1 drivers.

What the hell is a VIA chipset. My mobo is a MS 440ZX.

Prob is not this, but my m8 had the same problem once and all that was wrong was that the speakers were not inserted properly! This is, as I said, unlikely to be ur prob, but just quickly go + check now...
