hm i was wondering what is the best tank for duels
not the hardest tank
not the most damaging

the perfect balanced tank that hardly ever lose a duel (1v1) with another tank !

Sadly, it's hard to go 1on1 with another tank class...
atm , Hibernian Spear hero's are probably the best,

But it all depends on the spec of the other tank your fighting.... 1H or 2H? Shield specced high or not, etc

My thane can take on pretty much anything my own level if I see them first ie, I get of a bolt for 200dmg first, maybe a mjolnir for another 200

Buf If an armsman jumps me, I have a hard fight

shield users with 42 in shield can use the SLAM! move, so i'm stunned.... thats a real killer.....

Worst are by far the Palladin and Merc... hit like girls, and have fewer HP than the only real alb tank..... see of of those and your laughing

Only prob with merc's is if they use dirty tricks, that can make you miss miss miss and thereby get you kill'd, even though they hit for nada dmg if you dont hit them you die But I think its on big timer , so they wont be chain spamming that in RvR , but it might be handy n a duel situation

Are you stupid or what? My mercenary has allmost 1700hp unbuffed.. I got more then the average lvl 50 armsman.

And btw.. hit like wussies? I'd like to meet you if you were on midgard/lancelot on lvl 50 .. I would kick your ass so hard that you would quit the game.

reason for his statement, is probably that your alfa strike is weak, compared to pole/spears, but your damage overtime, relative to a poler/spear, is often quite alot higher.

I personally have executed orange-con berserkers and skalds, and have yet to fight anything else in one-on-one melee. The only thing I am scared of is a slam, followed by a thrusting spear. I'm pretty confident that I have a fair chance to beat the rest. And you can ask all those armsmen I outdamage at trees regularly about hitting like a wussie

In the past week I've bumped into a berzerker who bear morphed, I beat him, and also a moose boy, beat him too. Not bad for a Bible wielding tank eh?

Both conned yellow to my level 50 Paladin. Paladin's don't hit that hard, or have that many hit points, but chant twisting works brilliantly -- and, being defensively specced, when the enemy runs out of endurance I find that I block or parry their attacks effortlessly.

Anyway, RvR isn't about 1v1 fights its about groups and armies, the canvas is much broader than you present.

yellow to 50 can be 45 or 46 if remember correct?
most stupid thing what bers can do is go vendo, after 40?
caster and such is ok but against other tanks, loosing all defense to get 16% change to hit and all succesfull hits are crit!!
well, i enjoy my evade and parry skill too much for this.


edit: best for duel, armsman whit pole and hibbies moose machine 2h dunno if yet but next patch atleast.

he has 9 seconds to kill me...... Haven't met a merc who can do that

I'm not going to claim the title hear for blademasters (the slam/spear combo is just too awesome), but I will make one point...

Stupidest thing I've heard is people I've met (in Hib) who insist that blademasters damage output is crap because my cap from a single hit is about 130 (sans styles) and theirs is 300+ with a spear or large weapon. Please remember headline damage figures aren't everything - in the time it takes Mr Large Weapon to hit for 300 I've landed at least two swings, probably got at least one offhand swing in there and am that many times more likely to have seen a weapon proc add its funky goodness into the mix.

PvE, the only time even con tanks take aggro off me is if they're using taunts (I only taunt if I need that mob off a healer/caster NOW, otherwise the aggro just naturally gravitates to me...). In RvR, that bigger alpha strike counts for more because opponents go down in fewer swings total, and the multiple opponents effect in an RvR melee means my parry and evade abilities are worth less than in PvE. I've still got an enviable record in the one-on-one encounters I've had though.

Patch 1.52 adds the Flurry ability for BMs and Mercs, so our damage output in RvR goes up, and our chances of parrying in melees improve too. Be interesting to take this survey again a month or so after that patch...

i`ve so far met 5 yellow con tanks in 1 on 1 combat and beaten all of them unbuffed had half life left or more in all the fights, most of the fights were when i was level 43 so....

also met a thane yesterday orange con to me (i`m 46 now) he zapped me with his 2 lightening thingies took off about 20% of my life... i then proceeded to beat him to a pulp only thing that saved him was his 10 mates that turned up and healed him and killed me

anyhoo my 2c maybe i`ve just been lucky?

I have hit point in the excess of 1800
I always hit with a long term bleed... More than once
I have a 5 second stun
I have a Dirty Trick with will make you miss me upto 50% more than normal

I wear chain so your Hammers and Slashing swords don't scare me

I have the best Jambayi (spelling) that money can buy (Thanks Hendrick )

So far i have not met anybody in a 1 on 1 situation that can beat me.

I have even been known to take down several SB's in the same battle.

I first killed a level 50 in 1 on 1 when i was level 43.

So... Tell me again that Merc's are wuss's

Indeed, sorry to go off-topic, I was replying to matt's "merc can beat anything 1vs1" post.
For best tanks then, for RvR I'd say spear/sheild hero. Slam plus a big spear is just too good a combination.
For PvE, paladin, cos healchant rocks.
