what is the minimum spec a PC needs,

to:

not suffer any lagg ghosts.
not see any enemies pop through walls, gates, stuff
play full effects ... all the time...

Its not just your side, but server side too, but IMO specs for a semi decent PC are minimum:

AMD / Pentium 2.6Ghz plus
512Mb Memory
GF Ti 5XXX or ATI equivalent
100Gb HD for plenty of disk cache space
Windows 98 SE (less mem usage than XP)

Then you have to tweak the heck out of windows, adjusting virtual memory and display settings to suit. Then also regular defragging (or diskkeeper) and minimum background services.

Not sure about the minimum specs, but I run a P4 2.8 Ghz comp with 512MB of DDR ram, with a Radeon 9600/256 gfx card. running on a 2MB connection.

I find that with this setup things run smoothly in anything other than a very large fight(3FG+ on the screen at once) . I still get a drop in framerate in CS though at times, damn you buffbots! :D

services.msn - run that, disable all the crap that Microsoft makes you run (don't fuck with things if you don't know what you're doing tho)

msconfig.exe - run that, disable all the crap that Microsoft makes you run (don't fuck with things if you don't know what you're doing tho)

Runs fine on my p3 1ghz with 512mb ram, geforce 5200 in 1024x768. As soon as I run 2 accounts though I have to knock it down to 800x600 and usually not run in more then 1fg in non-RvR. It just can't stand it if there are more then 3fg on the screen in RvR or a massive zerg in any other zone (led ML raids with 100+ people and didn't suffer because of the lag but relic raids made my computer cringe even in OF).

And the secret is....

(drumroll)

Windows 98 SE :D

or win2k? :> very recource effecient and got all pros that winxp got (no fancy skins are not a pro :D )

and tbh, that big processors are unnessecary.. amd 1800 mhz or so is more than enough.. the biggest problem is memory :O 1 gig of memory really makes a difference when you meet the zerg. A fast hdd will also help out in that situation.

I got no idea how good graphix card you need since daoc grafix are kinda... simple to say so...

I'm running the ToA client on an AMD XP 2100+, 1.5GB RAM, GeForce FX 5700
LE Ultra w/128MB VRAM. Fast drives too, of course. I've seen it occasionally
lag a bit on loading. Framerate is high in small raids (ML1, for example, went
fine with 4+ groups and effects everywhere).

Runs on WinXP Pro, SP1 with oodles of software in the background.

windows 98se is the daddy of gaming operating systems, get it patched, disable useless crap running, get lots of ram an a fast HDD and youl run any game better than on an equiv-spec xp machine even if the software has been tweaked on the xp box - its just got too much shit built in
