Hello all

Im thinking of buying an Nvidia FX card - now i wonder if anyone knows which kind of card (5200, 5600, 5900, etc) that i need to use all the goodie effects (water, shading etc) in games of today (daoc, swg, wow etc).
Ive tried looking for this info on nividia homepage and some manufacturers but they are really good at hiding these specific issues - all the different card qualities seem oh so good when you read their descriptions...

I dont wanna end up with the fx counterpart of the geforce4 MX(which im running now) =/

...ive posted in the technical forum also, but i dunno how many reads that ;)

well, i think all ya need is a GF4 really for all the DAoC effects..

for the most part i think it works like this

GF FX 5200 - low budget, ok all round
GF FX 5600 - moderate and ok longetivity, better than the 5200
GF FX 5900 - VERY expensive but high end and the biggest longetivity for future game

your choice really

Well, im running a g4 ti4600 128 mb card and i get all effects maxxed, no probs.

Unsure which FX card to go for - but if money is no object - get the top spec one, if not, i think the above card retails at about 200 notes now.

5900 has apparently been pulled from production atm due to problems...

You should buy a Radeon 9700/9800

They are cheaper and faster then the Geforce Fx (in most benchmarks)

I've got an ATI Radeon 8500 and I'm fairly sure I'm getting all the new effects on that card too.
Retails around £100.

Has been an agruement with me and a friend,

my stance is Nvidia always and his is ATI, i can say the amount of messing around ive been given by ATI with buggy drivers and the support ive gotten is worse than Mac donalds at 3 am.

i can say 100% im an Nvidia guy aint nothing gonna change that unless they go bust ;)

my PoV anyways

In my experience ATI suck donkey balls. (I know I'm not helping you decide what to buy but still)

Ill qualify that by saying that a Rage 3d Pro is the most advanced model I've used.

Be warned.

The Geforce FX sounds like a hoover when you play 3D games.

I have a Geforce 4 ti 4600 128MB and it runs like a dream.

Best value card around atm is a Radeon 9500Pro (soon to be replaced by the 9600Pro)
