I've only had the Merc a few months, and already I can't stop thinking of fast cars. I can't afford it right now, but give it a while and I will be able to get something as a second car. So as an excuse to post pictures of nice cars, these are what I'm considering as a second car (weekend toy):

TVR Griffith 500, 5 litre Rover V8 engine in a car that weighs about a tonne. Stonking performance, amazing sound, gorgeous looks, and a boot that can fit a box of Mars bars in. Approx cost around £15000 for an average one.

TVR Cerbera 4.0, 4 litre AJP V8 engine, supercar performance, but unlikely as I want a soft-top. Amazing car though, £15000 - £20000 for a good one.

Vauxhall VX220 Turbo. 2 litre 16V engine, not that fast really (well compared to a TVR), but owns anything on the twisties. Very very tempted, and they're getting cheap now at around £15000

Caterham 7, I know nothing about these cars other than that they weigh about the same as a packet of 20 B&H, and are rocketships. Uncomfortable, but amazing fun. I quite like the idea of looking like Biggles

It's a Type 23 special edition. There's one for sale round the corner from where I work, it was a trade in and I think I'd get it for what they traded it in for, i.e. a fooking good deal. If I got a good price for mine, I would owe the same amount of money I did when I bought mine 18 months ago....

Renault Clio V6 255. Everyone knows how much I love this car, to have one next would indeed 0wn.

Alfa 147 GTA. Just as fast and just as bonkers, dunno if I'll be able to afford the bill for front tyres tho.

Other possibility is some sort of Beemer, either an E36 328i or an E46 330i/M3, again depending on funds. No one wants to see a shagged out old 328i tho, so here's a nice picture of an m3 instead.

Jeez, I really don't know what I want for my next car - probably another beemer. I'm so satisfied with my current beemer that i've not given "next car" a serious thought. An M3 would certainly be lovely, but i've owned an M powered car before and the fuel consumption and servicing costs scared me shitless, regardless of the fact i could afford it. I was out at Eastern BMW in Edinburgh a couple of weekends ago with a work colleague who was after one - £28k got you a 2003 carbon black with kiwi leather, SMG, sat nav and every other piece of kit it came with. Fooking gorgeous.

So yes, I would like an M3 as my next motor (once i've built up a significant chunk of no claims bonus).

I even fitted an M3 steering wheel to my car:

My 320D will be completely paid off in a couple of years and i'm going to keep it as a regular commute car / economical shopping car etc, THEN i'm going to have my weekend toy car.

James Agger is a good bloke to buy from, I've rarely heard anything bad about him.

Just bear in mind that running costs for a Cerb could be anywhere between £1000 and £5000 a year, depending upon your mileage.

When we're talking about running costs, what sort of costs are you talking about? Wear and tear items? (as in, brakes/pads/tyres needing replaced 'regularly') Or do they require frequent and expensive services? Obviously, insurance and petrol will cost big bucks.

My mate at work has a Cerbera and a Chimaera - the Cerb looks the fooking nuts with the Tuscan-esque lights and silly size rims.

Any advice welcome.

Actually Tom, i've done some googling and reading on Pistonheads - do these cars actually ever work?!

It seems (as you say) they need money thrown at them constantly to keep them running - some Cerbs appear to have had many engine rebuilds, duff brakes, duff shocks, duff everything costing the owners absolute fortunes just to keep it on the road. Additionally, it appears that some of them spent more time in Blackpool than in the owners garage.

As a pistonhead, i love the noise, i love the pace, i love how it looks and i bet i'd love the way it drives - but if i stop thinking with my cock for a second (and lets be honest) - it really is a shite car considering how damn expensive they are to buy in the first place.

I'm not convinced - maybe i'll need to look at one that that has had the majority of "rebuilding" n such done fairly recently?
