I'm obviously not able to talk from experience, but knowing many close friends who have stayed with guys they shouldnt be with:

Most of the time, its all psychological. They dont want to be lonely. They know the shouldnt be with them, and will cry to all the friends about wanting to leave them, but they cant do it cos it will mean they are alone, probably for the first time in a long time. And they'll do anything to convince themselves that they are going to break up with them, including trying to line themss.elves up the next boyfriend so they can just go from one relationship to another.

Another reason is the "chance" that their men will turn out to be good. Like one good day is worth 29 bad days. Women always believe they can change their men, even worse, they get married still believing it. One glimmer of hope of their man turning into their dream man is enough to keep them going through months of absolute torture.

I think all they want is a guy who is genuine, not afraid to show his feelings (within reason ofc, no one likes a cry baby!) and knows when the right time is to keep his mouth shut and give her a hug.

From my experience it also has a lot to do with age.

When girls are young, they want someone tough, someone who can defend them.
But as they get older they start to look into other things.
Someone that they can laugh with and live with but also support them, in anyway needed. - In more longterm relations.

Ofc one can not say how all girls think, and thank God for that.
We can't live with them, nor without them.
