What can be done to make T2 better?

I am not asking for new gameplay/weapon/vehicle suggestions, but more things which could be done to make T2 more fun to play.
Here are some ideas:

1) Rebalance teams after each map. If you don't know why I recommend this, then don't bother responding to this post.
2) Allow aliases on some servers! When people are forced to play with their real name, they feel that they constantly have to prove their worth. This is why I often see T1/2 vets sat on a vastly superior team, raping the other team into the ground while everyone is screaming for a rebalance of the teams. (I wont name names). Aliases makes people more laid back, and thus enjoy the game more. This will obviously mean that people will actually have to learn how to vote off llamas, big deal.
3) Remove personal scores entirely. This way you wont see all the petty score-grabbing exercises which go on in public servers. Things like returning the flag when it is in a safe spot anyway, or destroying each others defenses etc..
4) Client side firing? (hpw plea, ignore)

Some good ideas - particularly the team balance one.

However the loosing persoanl scores is a bad idea.

Not just because I personally am a point grabbing rambo player (and one of the finest) :p

Mainly because it would kill sales of the game.

Everyone plays to win.

All us vets and real team players might like it but all the newbie never before played tribes2 people will loose interest in the first 5 mins. Its hard enough for them to get into the game as it is.

Personal scores need to stay - but maybe have a server side option to disable them thus creating servers with and without.

Then you would get your one man rambos and newbs on one server and your "serious" teamplayers on another.

Speed up the game and add some "Cowboyism" .. If they make it faster it'll be harder to learn, hopefully people will take the time to learn, making the game last longer. But anyway.. It's a bit too slow for my liking anyway. Plus you'll never see the kind of teamwork they first envisioned on a public at all. For clan games sure it's a really fun game to play, but in the state it is atm , I rarely pub when it comes to T2.

Common misconception about T2 being slow is that its the gameplay that needs to be changed, imo this isnt the case, maps like damnation, katabatic and riverdance are all very fast paced games, however the majority of maps are slower paced, i like them the way they are but they may not be to the taste of the majority.

But if you speed up the game, maps like damnation will be TOO fast, if you change gamely you risk ALOT of people giving up on the game (look at the impact of last few gameplay changes for speeding things up).

Most games server unfortunatly dont have the luxury of including better custom maps on their servers. T2 can however and getting better maps for T2 i think is the answer.

NGUK i think is taking the right path i think, in intigrating the best ctf maps into their normal servers. BW however, in my opinion is taking the wrong path and having a seperate custom map server which the general public traditionally shun.

well, it would be nice if dynamix included client side map auto downloading into T2. Perhaps working demos would make T2 more fun. client side firing? do you mean client side projectile collision detection, i dont think that would make tribes2 better, more than likely it would crash the server :)

Gimme more points

I love my points and I think you should get points for more stuff, like blowing up an enemy vehicles, trurrets and sensors. At least it would encourage people to shoot at the enemy instead of their team mates.

Points for good flying on bombing runs, taking out missiles with flares, defending the flag carrier ... oh the list could go on and on ...

A team is a collection of individuals working towards a common goal, and it's good to see the contribution of each member. But it's probably impossible to equlaise scoring between defs and attackers.

Can I have a point for this post.

I'd like to see "The Nuke" in the game.

There is only one nuke in the game and it destroys everything within a 200 (and damages within 400) metre radius. The nuke is settled in the center of the game and can be moved by two scouts only. You have to be at least 900 metres away from your target before you can lanch the nuke. A special target element has to placed to target the objective.

This rocks!

No, but seriously, if you want some slightly faster, but deeper gameplay, give NinjaMOD a go, it has a slightly steeper learning curve than base, and most of the regular players are quite experienced, we see some pretty good teamwork going on.

The lamers are put off by the lack of "super weapons", they all want nukes and super rockets. NinjaMOD requires actual skill to play effectively.

Hopefully, you may see a Barrysworld NinjaMOD server at some point in the near future, but until then, nguk have 2 32 player servers running, if you can get on (mostly full).

Nukes???? What a bunch of arse.

What would be the point of the team game??? ITs a UT or Q3 stylee weapon - and should stay in games of that ilk.

Indeed, but have you ever tried one of the UltraVX type mods for T2?

OMG, everyone should try em once, just so they have firm ground to stand on when they slag em off :)

500 discs per second, insta-kill chainguns, sniper rounds, plasma rounds, rapid-fire mortars. I dont know how the creators can mutilate a good game in this way and still live with themselves.

I think the latest BWadmin has team shuffling after each map change?

I very rarely look at how high i am on the score board after each map but i think persona points should be kept since they encourage newbs to stick to the game and a community needs new members to stay healthy.

The Nuke idea is just plain poor, the weapons are all balanced very well and balance is one of Tribes2s finest points, it is always possible to counter someone else’s tactics etc.

About the speed of T2 gameplay, it is a tough cookie. IMO Thin Ice has to have something done to it, the bases look boring for a start. I think the Gens and flag should be in different places and some quicker way to get out of the base. Thin Ice usually gets decided by how many times people have grabbed the flag instead of capturing it.

Yesterday i had a blast of a time. Played Damnation, Quag, Katabatic, and Sanc then someone voted Thin Ice and somehow it passed. The server emptied within 5 mins.

Well said, well said, I'm sure a lot of people dislike a lot of games, but there's no need for that kinda antisocial behaviour.

Now go and sit in the corner and think about what you've done.

1) LOL i allways took heavy flames for pointing out the losing of personal scores because it would kill sales of the game, and the fact that everybody plays to win:p

2) Personal scores need to stay, but with some servers with them turned on and some without. Well to that i say just how many people will play on these servers without personal scores?, certainly no so called newbies will, and i very much doubt so called vets will either. Like you rightly point out, 'they play to win' not for the team, but for themselfs.

3) Rambo's on one server, newbs on another? don't think so. With Tribes players i find talk is cheap, the like nothing better than bashing on newbies heads, while coming to forums like these and spouting, team play this, team play that. The only 'serious' teamplay is in clan wars, not on publics, why do you think they don't balance the teams after another 5-0 in 4 mins:p.

4) Ill remind you again, it was you that said 'they play to win' on the issue of keeping personal scores, which virtualy refers to all the points iv'e made, before you flame me:)

Personally, I play to win within the limitation of teamplay. I set defence, flag chase and paint targets. I use the score that I have to decide how good a job I have done, and attempt to increase this.

When scouting for potential clan-members, a score also acts as a handy reference, because altho you might correctly argue that in a teamplay environment, scores dont matter, they act as a good comparative measure. Because even when playing a totally team-oriented role, the more skilled players will acrue a reasonable score.

Also, I feel that without the competitive element of scores, players would be more likely to just turtle in their bases, just defending, with no real incentive to attack. This problem doesnt manifest itself in Siege (which has no scores) because each of the two teams is assigned a specific role, either attack or defence.

Speaking from my point of view, scores can stay.
I defend the flag someone alse farms the turrets so at the end of a game if i score then i have done my job and if i don't score the team has done there job. But what i will suggest is that the scoring is split into 2 tables each team with there own table that way you can see how well the team did and not just how many points they scored.

I don't know maybe i full of s**t but there you go

Make it faster but remove less of the lights jet, it feels too much like gliding into a strong wind.
Take away points, replace with stats.

You will never get a good pub game unless it's a mixed scrim.
