What are you up to these days?

I thought we should have a thread where we basically describe what we have been doing in game recently. No need to spill any big secrets but just a general description of how things are for you and what you find yourself doing these days.

Having spent the best part of a year and a half running Kaminjosvig I decided that empire mercing was becoming very boring. We had built a decent reputation and as soon as we decced people they either ran away 34 jumps and docked for the night (G.I.S) or simply never undocked. If we decced two or more entities they would quickly gang up. In fact we had one Merc alliance running around deccing us and then ganging up with any of our marks to make sure they had well over 20-30 more than us in their gangs.

I can honestly say factional warfare was the highlight of my time in Kaminjosvig. That and a few very successful large contracts.

In the end though empire mercing became pointless and repetitive. So we decided to join Celestial Apocalypse in the hope of some 0.0 action. Merging into a new corporation is always a risky venture. I knew we would lose a lot of people who were not really playing anyway but in the main we did ok. Activity from our guys increased but sadly Celestial was not the corp we thought they were. Activity was generally the same as what we had when in Kaminjosvig and some nights there was only us ex Kaminjosvig people online which was gutting. :(

We went to fight with Sons of Tangra and Pandemic Legion in Resurgency. This was semi high profile in game. I have to say I never thought things could get worse than empire mercing. When we were double dd'ed almost 3-4 times in one week it grew old very fast. SoT and PL eventually bubbled the station we were in for something like a week to get us to leave. They were posting how it was good fun fighting us and shit like that but in the end they wanted us out of there and the lame play continued to get worse. Resurgency eventually folded with Celestial leaving the alliance. This was because the alliance would not stand and fight and obviously the shitty attitude of PL did have a negative impact.

So I have spent a few months taking stock of the game. Not knowing what to do really - the Tech II business I had built up had taken a big hit because of the POS fiasco. I stopped my subs to Nats account in quiet protest and in the end I just could not be bothered to log in. But I love the game - it just has so much more depth compared to WAR and other games out there.

So recently I decided to train my alt up to run covert ops and started exploration.

That is where the fun started again....

Confession time:

I've mostly been missioning recently :ninja:

The corp has just joined an alliance in Povidence space, it has potential but the alliance seems a bit crap at the moment ;) so we'll have to see. Corp is a good bunch of people though. Not sure I can be wholly arsed with 0.0 atm. Did have fun on Thursday night tho, ending up losing my Pilgrim :p .

Me, I've just re-subbed for the past couple of weeks for the first time in like 2 years :p looking forward to the release of Apoc.
Mainly been missioning as I'm in a noob corp atm but it's a good laugh and generally get some good chat going on in the evening. But I lost my Harbinger last nite :( it was a sad moment. Havent actually figured out a plan of action for my character apart from blowing shit up with my lasers :D

This is truely the way forward :)

I'm loving my Paladin!

If you're wanting to get out of the nub corp mate, gimme a shout in game (Eszencia). We have organised (ish) suicide fleets, exploration ops and all sorts.

I have mostly been making money :p

Last time I was in Eve by dint of effort I became the Industry VP in a 60odd person corp but it eventually collapsed - it had big dreams but it became apparent that most of the members didnt share them :(

I'm currently looking into the feasibility of a wormhole POS - if I can find a moon with decent metals I think I'll try it - I had a low sec POS for a while but it was just a moneysink so I eventually packed it away.

At some point I may rejoin a player corp if I can find a decent one but will explore the wormholes for a while first.

You can but it's a serious operation.

No Ice belts.

Good luck fueling it by yourself mate :( Also killing the sleepers looks like a gang effort. Gonna be bloody tough solo - they're fekin hard.

Hmm - pretty sure you can unless devs have said differently in the last couple of days as I have been keeping an eye on this for a few months - it will be tricky to re-supply but theres no rule that says no wormhole POS as far as I know.

There is a rule that POS in wormholes cant get sovereignty - perhaps that was what you were thinking of?

After my break I decided to skill up for exploration on my industrial alt and then bring my PvP character along. I found a few pockets and watched someone else run in and get the loot in front of me a couple of times before I managed to get an 'Unknown' pocket that took me through 5 different pockets as the encounter escalated.

The initial pocket was very funny - I tried to get in in an ishtar but the gate would only let in an AF or less. So I had to go get my Enyo. The final pocket was in Tama of all places. I figured since I was in an AF I would be safe enough especially with covert ops cover. There was a big Factional Warfare fight on the gate as I went into Tama (isn't there ever?).

No matter in fast ships these things are fairly straight forward so it was relatively easy to get into the system and into the pocket and finish it. Nothing seemed to happen and all the cans had crappy loot. Then I decided to check the wrecks and found a Gistii-A type Shield booster - worth a cool 200million plus on the market.

My next few attempts yielded crappy loot but buoyed by the success I decided to head to low sec.

So Friday night I headed to a low sec area. I found another multispectral pocket and started the escalating missions. They took me through low sec all over the place. I was in the AF. On the last pocket I was taking down a structure when a major spawn occurred. The bloomin station also hit me with several DD's and my enyo popped. :p

I rushed out and got my Ishtar and ran the Gauntlet of pirates back to the system. The ishtar was doing fine until I popped the structure and I got a major spawn. In this spawn I got webbed and as I was trying to leave this ship also popped. (by now I was shouting fuuuuuck!)

With an enyo and an ishtar down you can be sure I had to finish it - I headed 24 jumps to Sobaseki and back. Bearing in mind I had two bottles of wine and was on my third when I was going back. I got to the pocket - was there 5 mins when I got scrambled by the NPC's and my second Ishtar popped.

Almost crying now I decided I was not losing this pocket and so I went and got my Hyperion from another low sec location. On the way back some pirates noticed me but somehow I managed to evade them. I got to the end system and even my hyperion struggled to tank it. I obviously had the wrong tank fitted but boy these npcs were tough.

Anyway I eventually popped the main NPC and got the loot (worth no more than 5million) :p. I had noticed someone in local and knew I was being watched - I had been in and out so many times now it was getting amusing. As I was leaving the Hyperion jumped through to the next system just as two flashy Battle cruisers landed on the gate. I almost warped before they caught me with the scramblers. Knowing I was in trouble I microwarped back to the gate. At this stage there were now 4 of them and local was climbing. My cap was going slowly and I knew I was going to get popped so I de-agressed. They kept shooting and I managed to jump - as I was leaving the gate on the other side for the station a neutral scrambled me but got dusted by the gate guns.

I just warped as the others entered the system. Docked and logged for the night.

I can tell you that was one fun night - cost me about 200-300million but it was worth it. I had three bottles of wine and was completely hammered at the end of it. The rush when the pirates were on my PvE fitted hyperion was great and it was even better out whitting them. I have to say they were not very clever. ;p

I am going back in an astarte next time.

These are not faction missions they are exploration encounters and they are very tough some of them!

Level 3 missions are a big step up from level 2's but it is from 3-4's that you really start to make the isk. What were you flying?

Always use the right tank with the right resists and always read the mission report here:

http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=HomePage

Those reports tell you
a) what tank to fit i.e. right resists
b) what damage to bring (important for missiles)
c) what to shoot and what to avouid shooting i.e. what ships trigger the next waves.

I always read the mission guide before running the mission. Some missions are virtually impossible to solo otherwise.

everything i had, Coercer, Omen, maller Arbitrator Prophecy lol. followed every tanking advice my first corp told me to use and it still didnt work.

/edit: and i probably shot ALL the mobs that triggered the next wave the second they came up lol, because there were usually one hell of alot of em :p

/edit2, i even had a mate running up in his megapimped stabber fleet issue but he had to bail after ~30 second lol.

Brilliant website - I check it every time before doing a mission :) Generally use 1 EANM & 2 mission specific hardners for my tank.

I haven't done 0.0 exploration for a while now but always used to use a Sacrilege. The only time I swapped for other ships was for 8/10 and up (in gang). It has the mid slots for codebreaker / analyser, extra high for cloak / salvager and a hefty arse tank.

Wanted to buy some true sansha heat sinks last night but they've gone up in price by >50% :(

Do you have much in the way of drone skills? 5 tech 2 drones is a big help.

Otherwise my main strategy solo is to keep moving fast with afterburners/MWD so that i can seperate out the fastest/smallest ships kill them, next lot and so on - by moving fast I can really reduce the incoming dps.

I use a second account a lot of the time though in a dedicated logistics ship - lets me pretty much sit there and tank everything while 10 drones go to work.

Wow :) I have <1mil and can use all drones except Ogre 2s & Sentrys.

Got a couple of implants the other day and I get 950dps without drones on my mission ship now ;)

Yeah, I have a logi ship hanging about in case of trouble. When I'm almost finished, the alt goes and gets the tractoring ship :)

Your problem is your dps I am betting. I had one hefty assed tank on a brutix and was trying to run 250mm Rails Tech I for level 3's. When I switched to 150mm tech II rails the DPS went up significantly. Once that happened as long as I did not trigger the next wave I always managed to run the level 3's. Remember for every ship you kill the opposition loses a significant amount of dps. With NPC encounters dps is the most important factor.

It is a tough job moving up - oh and Amarr ships used to really suck ass at missions.

I have an amarr mission alt and I've found that the prophecy is very meh to use.

On paper with bonuses to resists it looks like an attractive proposition but in reality it's rather annoying to use as it lacks the damage bonuses of the Harbinger.

if you're looking to run lvl 3's my advice is to get a Harbinger, Train up Tech2 Beams/Pulses and always carry 5 light drones. Use the drones on the small fast annoying ships that web you and then rely on specific rat tank and a good cap regen fit to keep you up until you can kite the enemy ships into range.

You may find taking out the heaviest hitting ships first helps. I know when I run missions I focus on taking tackle and heavy hitters out first.

Don't forget to salvage the wrecks btw - that can add millions on to your reward.

I tend to do the following when ratting missioning.

1. Grab all drops - even the trash. This is reprocessed and the minerals are then used to manufacture amunition for me to continue ratting.

2. Salvage all wrecks. Salvage can be sold periodically or saved to make things like armour/cap regen/armour rep rigs

Definately this.
My corp buys mins I don't need off me and I get a load of mins from loot. Just remember to pull out the high value items (arbalest, etc..) and then repro the lot. With good standings you can lose <1% when reprocessing in a high-sec station.
Salvage is awesome - stockpile it to make your own rigs or sell it for good isk. Strangely it's often possible to sell the salvage parts for a rig for more than you can buy the made module for :p .

For Amarr, I'd go with a Harb over the Proph every time. Abaddon is great as BSs go.

I'm in Better Dead than Smeg now matey. I thought I'd give Dwain & Franky's splinter corp a go as a rl mate had already joined when I reactivated.

My char in game is Dacovale. Are you Sharkith in game too? If so I suspect you were either before my time or during my mini-break :)
