What an awful way to go...

File this under "Bored so I'll start a fairly pointles thread".

Someone reminded me of Black Hawk Down the other day and I remembered *plot spoiler*

...the two snipers in the downed heli. One was running out of ammo and swapping between pistol and rifle until.."click, click" and hordes of manic locals descended on him with machetes and shit. The kind of movie death that just goes right thru you. Most movie deaths, even inventive gory ones (see any elm st/halloween/final destination flick), don't really upset me and quite often are amusing, but every now and then comes along a form of life-ending that..... I dunno, just makes you really think "whoooa what an awful way to go".

Fifteen Minutes, *spoiler*

Robert De Niro tied to the chair was quite effectively done, tho the film was crappy. Any others?

Robocop doesn't count - it was a cartoon. Jaws yes. The Robert Shaw one wasn't too delightful either (VERY effective at 10yrs old)
I haven't seen Henry but those "real-life" style deaths are often hard going.

Scum, the entire last quarter (after the rape) is pretty fucking sickening...

Ring 0, the two women in the log cabin. Something that scares you so much you shoot yourself, ick.

In fact, in Ring, the proper horrible death gives me the heebie-jeebies. Nothing should move like that.

that bit in 'Event Horizon' where Sean Pertwee sees the timer on the explosive has just about ran out; a quick death but a horrible few, piss your pants, nanoseconds.

dont know which Ring you see but i seen the Jap one that is in HMV, everytime someone was gonna die a horrbile death all you seen was a still of their face with there mouth open and then it would fade to white.

anyway, horrbile death - at the end of Road to Perdition :(

There is one proper scarey death in the japanese version of Ring...near the end, crawling out of the TV...*shudders*

And Ring 0 is the prequel, very good it is too.:)

I believe it was called Tetsuo, a truly fucked up film which I caught on channel 4 when I was about 13.

Gave me the impression that the Japanese are a truly fucked up lot.

Nothing has since given me any reason to think otherwise!

I don't mean gruesome particularly tho'. :(

Just, I dunno, really well shot, panic-stricken, heart-rending, awful awful, imagery of demisery.

Another example: Saving Private Ryan - the guy in the room upstairs when he has the hand-to-hand fight with the German and loses. Begging and panicking (sp?) is just too close to the truth imo.

Final Destination. The kid that gets hung by the wire in the bathroom. Although the circumstances of him getting into the situation were absurd, the death was not nice.

Do you mean ones that are more scarey because they are starkly realistic, based in the real world where you could easily imagine yourself in the same situation? That fight with the German is a good one, kind of makes you think how hard you would fight to stay alive; would you have won, lasted as long as he did or given up and died earlier? Really makes you think about yourself.

That's it really. I would be dead in half the time, covered in wee and poo. :(

not sure you can really know till it actually happens, depends how important being alive is I guess; if I had kids etc I would probably fight harder or try and make a deal with the German soldier to just go our own way and pretend we never met:)

L

Aye but in SPR he only wanted to make that deal when he was underneath...Same as all of us I guess.

True, really don't think I could kill someone though I haven't been in a war and propagandad/brainwashed up for it. My friend was a marine in S Africa and he says it's scarey what things you'll do if you are told in that situation.
