you forgot the part where the abls took the keep 
unless this was another day - I was with 1 fg in bg3, only one able to operate a ram - got the doors, but there were too many guards+defenders so the doors were open for 3 hours until we got backup and tried just so many times... Until we got up to the keep lord and schmacked him. Then of course the mids come back after a few hours to retake the keep
