Theres a serious fireworks display going on near me - on the 4th July in Hertfordshire???

I could understand if we were near a US base but we arent - is this just aping another US custom or what?

The Americans use the 4th July to celebrate their independence from the British Empire.

The British are starting to use it to celebrate the day we got rid of the Yanks ;)

You would be suprised at how many people from the US live in the UK.

In Nottinghamshire there is a shit load of them.

Cheeky buggers - still next time your in New York on 5th July you can celebrate the British forces capture of Fort Ticonderoga where the US forces fled without a shot being fired :p

In Nottinghamshire there is a shit load of them.

I've only met one yank in Nottingham!

But alot of the cheques I deposit for customers have the american way of doing .00 for money.

On the calendar in the surgery near where i work the event for the day was 'David Beckham and Victoria Adams wed on this day' for July 4th. I ironically commented to the staff that 'well its not as if anything important happens on July 4th' to which one daft bint replied 'yeah we figured it must have been a quiet day in history'

Somedays my spirit dies a little bit more than others.....
