Recently, whilst playing a game or doing something completely unrelated bright coloured dots started appearing on my screen. It was like a banding of purple and blue colours. Its usually a blue or purple colour. I felt the case and nothing was hot and there wasn't any weird smells. Anyone got any clues why this is happening cus its a pain in the arse. :(

A similar thing happened to me back last year, the video card was on its way out, normally a power down solved the problem (even to standby) but the problem gradually got worse and worse and I had to send back the card.

Sounds like it's either faulty memory, or insufficient cooling on the graphics card to me. Check the temperature of the heatsink/if the fans running, using your finger, when it's been running for a while. If that's fine then you probably need to get a new card. If it's not, look at replacing the cooling on the card.

Interesting, as mine was also a 9800 Pro 128MB. It took so long to test and replace it they had to give me an alternative, which was a problem as the card as AGP, I ended up with a GeForce 6600GT 256MB.

I can't be bothered to replace the card as the pcs generally getting old and cant really do much anymore. I'll use it till the card goes then switch to my brothers 6 year old pc till I get a new one in the year dot. :(
