Sorry, having read my post I think it may have been me who caused the confusion over converting fat to muscle.

No ... you cant convert fat to muscle.

What I ment was that given a reasonable diet, due to his higher workload from gym/ fitness training, he will start to gain muscle mass.

However given that his calorific input remains the same his body fat will reduce as his body uses up the stored energy to try and make up for the deficit in calorie usage.

As muscle weighs more than fat his weight loss may not be as "spectacular" as he may wish.

Appologies if my original post was missleading.

Mens health and all those magazines are full of shit. Every single front cover has a picture of some dude with incredible abs. Now, cut to your average blubbery, stinky, pasty white British 25-45 something male with 2 or 3 stones of paunch, who smokes and drinks and eats too much. How can doing those fucking stupid 10 min exercises a day turn you from disgusting blob into Mr. Perfect Body ? Its totally misleading.

The only sure way to lose weight is to burn off more calories that you take in, but sticking to a sensible diet and modest exercise regime. And stick with it.

It takes times. Months and months. Gotta be patient if you're a fatty I'm afraid and need to lose a couple of stones.

Even if thats true (how can you be so gullible to believe that sh*t), they didn't look like that by doing 10 minutes of squat thrusts every day. It takes AGES to look like that, and some ppl just don't have the metabolism to get there

re: building muscle when calorie defecit

Took up swimming for first time since a kid a 2-3 months back. Have mostly been on a diet (short mebbe 1-1.5 calories a day) this year as several stone needed shifting, and did no other excercise cept alot of walking.

The weight loss stopped for a few weeks after starting up swimming, and no i didn't change diet or start pigging out. However, fact i was still loosing fat and change in bodyshape and was very noticable. Grew some 'shoulders' ffs!

This what 'noobie gains' mean? Can still put on muscle despite calorie defecit when first start some excerise if really was vs doing nothing at all previously?

As far as exercise is concerned, even walking round the local park is better than nothing for 20 mins a day.

I'm about right - but cos of my height (6 foot 7) any excess "sag" disappears to my legs lol

Swimming is very good. The only thing about swimming is that I find I'm always really hungry after a swim. And they have chocolate machines in those damn places lol. Torture. Have a banana after. Great stuff a banana is.

Pretty much yeah. Honeymoon period will allow for muscle growth and above average fat loss over a short period of time while your body acclimatises to it.

When it starts slowing down is when you have to put in the effort :p
