I made the point that the government should sell it and take away the profits from the drug dealers. The government shops wouldnt sell hard drugs, and dealers would only be able to sell stuff like cocaine. All the ppl that think weed is 'good' would be appeased, a substantial part of the electorate.

Sounds like you've read the Lib Dem's manifesto (Full legalisation)

In my experience, people who use weed tend to either (a) be so chilled out they are unaware of an election taking place or (b) be fiddling the council tax and therefore not on the electoral role.

At this rate my daily "funnies" may even outstrip your successful attempts at sarcasm.

yea, im sure the dealer knows whats in em? sure, if hes got lab equipment and has a nice medicine degree then i might trust him, but i doubt he does and more likely to be a dumbass muppet tosser with no clue about anything and certainly doesnt give a damn about you only your money. Well done there m8, trust your life to a drug dealer, Thats prolly the most dumbass thing ive ever heard on these boards

Making it almost non-criminal to buy cannabis but still criminal to deal it is the dumbest policy decision I've ever heard (ok, maybe I'm exaggerating.)

Smokers still have to visit criminals to buy the stuff and therefore associate with them and possibly be offered other illegal substances and they have less incentive not to visit them.

Either legalise it or not. If not, make it scary and bad to buy it.

I go for legalise myself even though I don't smoke it no more.

grr.

Just read up on the Legal side a bit more.

IT will still be a criminal offence to have it in your possesion. But if taken to court the maximum sentence has been reduced to 2 years rather than 5 (seeing as most cases in the past often gave 3-6 months if sentenced it will make little difference at all).

If a policeman finds you in possesion, he now gets the choice as to arresting you, or giving you an on the spot caution (which you can accept or decline). He doesn't HAVE to take you down the station anymore, it all depends on how he the copper feels at the time, is it near the end of his shift?, is it raining?

Police will be less likely to turn a blind eye, as the experiment in Lambeth has show, 107% increase in cautions for possesion since the trial started. so twice as many folks found in possesion have now got a criminal record, but less police time has been spent in doing this.

Whilst dealers will face double time ...

Hardly a benefit /

That 107% increase was comparing cautions before the change in policing guidelines, to warnings after the change (held for records only, not technically a criminal record like a caution).
