Very long film.....impressive but the mix of story and action for me wasn't quite enough - It just seemed to overstate some of the action. Some of it seemed a little hammy at times, but despite that the director did enough of a job to keep me watching it. End was crap though :( This could have gone in so many different directions :( And before slating me, no i've not read the comic, that was a little late to come out in my years for me to be seen reading it :p

It wasn't bad at all but lets be honest now, 2 years of hype that it could never live up to.

A film should stand up on its own merits IMO. If you HAVE to have read comics as a pre-requisite to seeing a movie, its an automatic epic fail IMO. A good film should be able to stand its own ground.

Who the fuck reads comics anyway ?

I've read it, I thought the comic was massively overrated and the film was mediocre bordering on quite bad.

Not read the book myself, graphic novels don't really appeal to me.

As in, yeah it was better/worse than the book but never, 'this film was awesome cos the book was good. I mean, technically the film was shit but the book was awesome which makes the film good by default!!'

im talking about the ending, so many people said they didnt like the ending but that couldnt be changed as its the ending to the novel. And most people who complained about the ending were the ones who hadnt read the novel. Its not a generic everyone wins kind of hollywood ending

but it doesnt mean you have to like it. i hated the ending of War of the Worlds (although the movie was shit too). I was talking to my mate about how shit i thought the ending was and some goodie geek with an I-Am-Smarter-Than-Thou attitude told me well, tough shit, the ending was good coz it ended like that in the book.
fucking wanker. told him it still sucked.

Actually a lot of Watchmen fans were very pissed off because the ending was different - they did away with the squid.

I quite liked it, decided to read the novel after and found the movie to be a better ending.

Well not *completely* different, the main point was the same.

I saw the extra long edition and actually liked the movie. It did try to cover too much but still over all it was good. No, I have never read the comic book.

I thought the action was perfect in that it was generally very stark and brutal, reflecting the world of the watchmen and it's contrast.

I thought Rorschach was perfectly played: None of you understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with me.

I thought Ozymandius was perfectly played. Seems to be insane but is actually the only one truly capable of "saving" the world. Also it's kind of a refreshing change to have a "villan" who is actually the "good guy" and despite morally questionable actions effects the best possible outcome.

In my opinion; good movie, some impressive bits, nothing to drool over though.

I agree about Rorschach, superbly cast. Such a pivotal part of the story, if they'd got him wrong it would have killed it.

I enjoyed it, still got the graphic novel sealed away after reading it and thought that the film was a good version of the story. Lets face it, how much longer would it have been with the Tales of the Black Freighter and all the asides about the island full of artists etc included.
